Evelyn A. Krebs was born to Anna (Svoboda) and Theodore Semerad on September 30, 1928 near New Hradec, ND, and was raised on a farm in that area. She attended grade school in New Hradec and attended Model High in Dickinson. She attended Dickinson State University and then taught at rural schools near New Hradec and later near Lefor, ND. There, she met John K. Krebs, and they were married on July 7, 1948. They moved to Dickinson and then to New England, ND where they lovingly raised six children.
Evelyn was active in many areas: she acted as a cub scout den mother, she was active in the St. Mary’s New England Parish and Altar society, and Eight Plus Home makers club to name a few. When they moved to Dickinson, she was a member in St. Wenceslaus Parish, prayer chain, and St. Ann’s Altar Society. Evelyn was very caring and touched many lives. She did childcare in her home while raising her children, and worked nights at the Arrowhead Lanes Bowling Alley in New England as a short order cook. She also worked at the Café in New England, at Dickinson State University in the Student Center, at Dickinson Nursing home, and at the Dairy Barn in Dickinson. She and John moved to Dickinson in 1979, and she continued working at TMI. She retired from TMI in 1994 after working there over 16 years. After retirement, she did volunteer work with RSVP at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Dickinson. She moved to Evergreen in 2004 and has especially enjoyed the residents and staff there, the outings and the recreational activities.
She knew and loved many people. She enjoyed flower gardening, crocheting, playing bingo, visiting with friends and spending time with her family. She appreciated music, and ensured all of her children took music lessons. Her strong faith and work ethic were among the values she held close and passed on to her family.
Family that crossed into everlasting life before Evelyn are her husband John in 2003, her son Barry in 1974, her parents, sisters Bertha Dvorak and Betty Semerad, and a brother who died just before birth; great granddaughter, Zoey; and an infant great grandchild.
Family she leaves believing in the resurrection are three sons, Fr Bruce Krebs, Minot, ND, Brian Krebs, (Charlotte), Bernard (Jane) Krebs, Dickinson, ND; two daughters, Brenda (Jack) Todd, Blue Grass, IA, and Bonnie (Bruce) Dick, Dickinson; three granddaughters Shannon and Kellye (Fiancée, Brian Trzpuc) Zuelke, Andrea Krebs and three grandsons, Kasey and Kody Collins, Brandt (Tanya) Dick; her brothers George and Jerry Semerad, and sister Martha Barta.
