Evelyn passed away Saturday, April 26, 2014 at the Marian Manor in Glen Ullin, ND. Jessie Evelyn “Evie” Kessler was born February 17, 1923 in Dickinson, the daughter of Rex and Inez (Chapman) Kessler. She attended Belfield Public School, graduating with the class of 1940. Evelyn went on to receive her teaching certificate from Dickinson State Teaching School. She taught for a few years before she moved to Portland, OR during World War II, where she worked as a buyer for Fred Meyer stores. Evelyn married Victor John Lutgen on November 15, 1945 in Glen Ullin. Together the couple owned and operated Vic’s Friendly Service, which included cabin rentals, a lunch counter and a bulk station, where they worked hand in hand for many years. Whenever they could get away from the station, they enjoyed time at their cabin on Lake Tschida. They also enjoyed fishing and made several fishing trips to Canada. After retiring, they wintered in Lake Havasu City, AZ for many years and they were also able to do some traveling together. After Vic passed away in 1997, Evelyn continued to live in Glen Ullin and winter in Lake Havasu. Evelyn loved painting and was an accomplished painter. She enjoyed going to the casinos in Laughlin, NV, playing cards (especially Bridge), but more than anything, she loved spending time with her friends in Glen Ullin and Lake Havasu. Evelyn was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glen Ullin, American Legion Auxiliary, Glen Ullin Lioness Club, Harmony Homemakers, and a square dance club. Evelyn is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vic; parents, Rex and Inez; brother, Sam Kessler; sisters, Dorothy Kessler, Lucille Hendrickson and Mildred Grogan. The family suggests memorials be made to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glen Ullin, ND.
