Funeral Mass for Felix Haich, 89, of Gladstone, ND, will be 9:00 a. m. , Tuesday, August 3, 2010, at St. Patrick?s Catholic Church with Father Todd Kreitinger officiating. Military Rites will be performed by the Dickinson Honor Guard. Burial will be in the ND Veterans Cemetery in Mandan following the service. Visitation will be 12:00 p. m. to 9:00 p. m. , Monday, August 2, 2010, at Stevenson Funeral Home in Dickinson with a Rosary and Vigil Service at 7:00 p. m. Felix passed away peacefully on Friday, July 30, 2010, in Dickinson. Felix was born on May 21, 1921, to Andrew and Christine (Awender) Haich on the family farm in rural Stark County, ND. He attended Iota Country School north of Gladstone. Felix entered the Civilian Conservation Corps in Theodore Roosevelt National Park. He later enlisted in the US Navy at Pensacola, FL, where he served as an airplane mechanic. He later served in the South Pacific Theater. In 1946 he was honorably discharged and returned to the farm in North Dakota. Felix married Mary Sickler September 16, 1947 at St. Phillips Catholic Church north of Gladstone. To this union 10 children were born; Judy, Jane, Juanita, Jerome, Jerel, Jeff, Joel, Jarmin, Janel, and Jonathan. Felix and Mary moved to the Haich homestead north of Gladstone and farmed the next 60 years. In 1984 the relocated to their present home near Gladstone. He loved the farm and planted thousands of evergreen and fruit trees. He also enjoyed painting in his earlier years and loved planting gardens and flowering plants. Felix was a member of the North Dakota Horticulture Society for many years, the NW Barbwire Association, Knights of Columbus, VFW, St. Thomas Catholic Church and recently, St. Patrick?s Catholic Church. Felix loved to travel and he and Mary made it to all 50 states and 10 countries. Felix is survived by his wife, Mary; sons Jerome (Debbie), Gladstone; Jerel, Houston, TX; Jeff (Vicky), Joel (Mickie), Jarmin, all of Dickinson; Jonathan (Shelly), Bailey, CO; daughters, Judi (Dan) Erickson, Omaha, NE; Jane (Paul) Larson, Watford City; Juanita (Jeff) Yeager, Omaha, NE; Janel (Barney) Tomanek, Dickinson; 26 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Felix was preceded in death by his parents; 5 brothers, Leonard, Edward and three infant brothers; 5 sisters, Kathryn Biel, Anna Evinger, Betty Sickler, Mary Lazaneo, and Rosalee Sickler. The family suggest memorials be made to St. Patrick?s Catholic Church, 310 2nd Street W, Dickinson, ND 58601.
