Florence Schneider of Ekalaka, Montana, went to be with the Lord on July 17, 2005 at the age of 98 years at Dahl Memorial Nursing Home. Florence was born in Lewis County, Washington, on June 1, l907. Her father was a blacksmith and moved the family several times, finally settling in southern Oregon. She was the 5th of 7 children; Esther, Ernest, Lowell, Grace, Florence, Lois and Lewis. The blacksmith business became a garage in Grants Pass and it was there that Florence met her husband, Robert Schneider. They were married in Crescent City, California on April 5, l939. Robert and Florence lived in Portland, Oregon, for a time while Robert worked as a carpenter and Florence worked in the shipyards. In l943, they decided to move back to Montana and lived in Darby for almost 4 years. The next move brought them back to Ekalaka to make their home and be near Robert?s family. They ranched near brother Earl Schneider and ran sheep and cattle, but mostly sheep for 25 or so years. Florence was a hard worker on the ranch and did most anything that needed to be done. She also loved her flowers and tried to make things grow in her yard. She and Robert liked to travel and saw most of the western states. When Robert died in July l972, Florence moved from the ranch back into town and lived in the little log house that was Robert?s birthplace. She also worked for some period of time at the Dahl Memorial Nursing Home as a janitor. People recall her as being a cheerful and hard worker. She never wanted to leave this area because Robert was buried here and she wanted to be close to him. However, as it was possible, she continued to travel to the Pacific coast to visit family until her arthritis made it too difficult. The only thing that meant more to her than her beloved Robert was the relationship she had with her beloved Lord Jesus. She took her understanding of the Word of God quite seriously and never seemed to deviate. Her faith was definitely her strength and kept her until her dying day. She would have hastened her time of departing so she could be with her Lord and leave this world of pain behind. Surviving Florence is her sister Lois Wright of Wenatchee, WA, stepson Robert Schneider of Oregon, stepdaughter Lucille Solhiem of Wolf Point, and many nieces and nephews, including Brice Barrere of Ekalaka, Marsha Kretz of Olympia, WA, Jane Bloom of Palo Alto, CA, Jack Deskins of Centralia, WA, Leslie Collins of Shelton, WA, Sharri Lorraine of Wenatchee, WA, and Lila Van Horn, Richard Wright, Marilyn Powers, Janice Mullins, Carol Furnoy, Gerald Wright and Keith Wright, all of Portland, OR. Many wonderful friends in the local area have provided closeness for Florence that her relatives in distant places were unable to provide. She will be greatly missed by her friends at the Break Forth Bible Church for her prayer support and powerful faith. Blessed be the Name of the Lord for His goodness and faithfulness to all of us. Visitation is scheduled for Friday, July 22nd at 1 pm to 8:00 p. m. at the Stevenson Funeral Home in Baker, MT. A Funeral Service for Florence will be held on Saturday July 23rd at 10 am at the Break Forth Bible Church in Ekalaka. Rev. Larry Phalen and Jeremy Dietz will be officiating. Burial will follow in the Beaver Lodge Cemetery.
