Funeral Services for Florence Wetsch, 90, of Killdeer, ND, will be at 10:00 a. m. on Saturday, November 20, 2010, at St. John?s Lutheran Church in Killdeer, with Pastor Joel Sauerwein officiating. Burial will take place at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan, ND. Visitation for Florence will take place from 1:00 p. m. to 8:00 p. m. at Stevenson Funeral Home, Killdeer, ND. Florence passed away Monday evening, November 15, 2010, at the Hill Top Home of Comfort in Killdeer, ND. Florence Mae Edwards was born May 17, 1920, in Killdeer, ND, to Clarence and Mathilda (Dahl) Edwards. She grew up on the Edwards’ farm North of Killdeer doing many farm duties, including herding sheep. In 1938, she graduated from Killdeer High School and then took additional business classes in Dickinson, ND. On September 11, 1943, Florence and Joseph J. Wetsch were married at the Naval Chapel in Algiers, LA. The couple lived in New Orleans and Florence worked in the business office of Higgins Aircraft. After the war ended Florence and Joe returned to Killdeer where they made their home and raised their three children, Nancy, Thomas, and John. Florence spent her final three months at the Hill Top Home of Comfort. Florence enjoyed reading and edited several local history books. She loved to cook and entertain for friends and guests. She enjoyed traveling and recently returned to New Orleans to celebrate her 90th birthday. Florence was very active in the Killdeer community as well as St. John?s Lutheran Church where she was a member of various church committees. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Bridge Club, 4-H Club and was a Scout Den Mother. Florence was an avid bridge player and corresponded regularly with her family and many friends. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy (Robert) VanVleet of St. Maries, ID, and her sons, Thomas (Leslie) Wetsch of Oxnard, CA and John (Laura) Wetsch of Raleigh, NC; seven grandchildren, Joe VanVleet, Nicole VanVleet Hansen, and Charles (Tiffany) VanVleet; Julie (Jason) Cook, Katherine (Anthony) Firth, Michael Wetsch and Joseph H. Wetsch; two step-grandchildren, Shawn and Alayne Cleveland; six great-grandchildren; and brother, Thomas Edwards of Killdeer. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Mathilda Edwards; her husband, Joseph J. Wetsch; one brother, David Edwards, and two sisters, Ione Ungerecht and Thelma Fenton. Memorial contributions can be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church, Killdeer, ND; St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Killdeer, ND; or Assumption Abbey, Richardton, ND.
