Florence, surrounded by her loving family, passed away Saturday, April 22, 2017 at Marian Manor Health Care in Glen Ullin, ND.

Florence Marie was born April 23, 1922 in Flasher, ND to Richard and Adella (Banning) Mahrer, the oldest of eight children.  Florence attended elementary school in Flasher and St. Anthony.  At the early age of 11, she started to lose her hearing.  She graduated from the Devils Lake School for the Deaf.  She then went on to graduate from the college in Yankton, SD with a teaching diploma.  Her first teaching position in 1941 was at a country school south of Hebron.  This is where she met Arthur Wiege.  Arthur took a job in Missoula, MT, as Florence had taken a job at Ft. Lewis, Washington.  She later joined Arthur in Missoula where they married on September 29, 1942.  They moved to Anaconda, MT where Arthur worked in the Copper Mines.  They then moved to Portland, OR where he worked in the Ship Yards.  Their last move was to Hebron in 1945, where they made their final home.

Florence was busy being a devoted wife and mother to their eight children.  She was known as a great seamstress and cook.  She belonged to St. Ann’s Christian Mothers and faithfully led the rosary for over 35 years, American Legion Auxiliary, Brick City Senior Citizens and Quilting Club.  She catered 35 years for the Hebron Lions Club, weddings, funerals, and the Hebron Fall Festival.  Florence loved to play cards, board games, putting puzzles together, spending time with her children and grandchildren, and she was a devoted Minnesota Twins fan.

Florence is survived by her eight children: Joanne (George) Schantz of Glen Ullin, Larry of Hazen, Richard of Hebron, Roy (Ranae) of Bismarck, Raymond (Connie) of Dickinson, Terry (Jeri) of Mandan, Michael (Becky) of Bloomfield, NJ, Susan (Craig) Criger of Grove, OK.  She was blessed with 19 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Margaret “Peggy” (Leo) Ternes; sisters-in-law, Angie and Isabelle.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur; her parents, three brothers, and three sisters.
