Frances passed away on Tuesday, December 31, 2024 at St. Benedict’s Health Center in Dickinson.
Frances Josephine Gawryluk was born on October 8, 1933 in Belfield to Frank and Amelia (Paluck) Makowski. She was raised with her siblings, Victoria, Leonard, and Dorothy. She began school in Fryburg, later attending in Belfield. She worked at Pete’s Café for many years, where people enjoyed the donuts she prepared each day. She was then employed at Trapper’s Kettle, until she moved to Dickinson.
Frances married John Gawryluk on May 27, 1952 at St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Church in Belfield. They lived together in Belfield, later moving to Dickinson. The two were inseparable and did almost everything together. Frances was a faithful partner and was devastated when John passed away on October 7, 2009. Frances became a resident at St. Benedict’s Health Center in November of 2019, where she stayed until her passing.
Frances loved music, especially Daniel O’Donnell. She also enjoyed watching TV, specifically comedies and westerns.
Faith was very important to Frances, and she was a member of St. John the Baptist for many years. She would also go to the cemetery every Memorial Day to put out flowers and pray for the people buried there.
Frances is survived by her sister, Dorothy Heiser of Bozeman, Montana; brother, Leonard Makowski of Belfield; aunt, Betty Kropilnicki; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, John; parents, Frank and Amelia Makowski; and sister, Victoria Dutchuk.
A special thank you to her nephew, Dan Dutchuk, and her niece, Teresa Olheiser, for the special attention and care they gave to Frances. The family is also very grateful to St. Benedict’s Health Center for the care Frances received over the years.
