Funeral Mass for Frank A. Schmidt, 84, of Dickinson is 10:00 a. m. , Thursday, November 18, 2010 at the St. Joseph?s Catholic Church with Father Keith Streifel. Burial will be in the St. Joseph?s Cemetery in Dickinson. Visitation will be Wednesday from 1:00 p. m. to 9:00 p. m. with a Rosary and Vigil Service at 7:00 p. m. at the Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson, ND. Frank passed away Saturday, November 13, 2010 at St. Benedicts Heath Center in Dickinson. Frank A. Schmidt. He was the first child born to John C. and Pauline (Miller) Schmidt. Frank was born on the homestead of his grandparents, Michael M. and Elizabeth (Wilhelm) Miller on July 4, 1926. He was baptized, confirmed and a lifetime member of St. Joseph?s Catholic Church in Dickinson, ND. He attended school in Scenic No. 1 School through eighth grade. It was located southwest of South Heart, in what is now the South Heart School district. He was a member of the Eagles Club for over 20 years. Frank was longtime farmer and rancher from the Belfield area and had many different job descriptions, or ?wore a lot of hats?. He did electrician work, plumbing, overhauling small engines, tire work, carpentry, construction and mechanic work. His first jobs were putting up hay, and at the age of 15, he was on his first threshing crew, pitching bundles. Frank?s first job that wasn?t farm related was at Miller?s Supply where he worked repairing tires for tractors, trucks and cars. He was the only person in Dickinson at that time that could repair tubeless tires. Next he worked at Walt Fuchs Cabinetry as a cabinet maker and during vacation worked on a harvesting crew in Texas. Following these jobs, Frank worked construction for Badinger Sand and Gravel in Dickinson and 2 years in construction for Hlebichuck Construction driving heavy equipment. He farmed and ranched for Emch Cattle Partnership from 1984-1987. He then worked for Candy Construction while farming his own land in southwestern North Dakota and northern South Dakota near Prairie City. Frank retired in 1996. Franks interest throughout his life included: reading, collecting toy tractors, restoring tractors, riding horse, visiting with friends and a love for dogs. Frank is survived by five brothers, John (Jean) Schmidt, Dickinson, Edward (Paulette) Schmidt, Dickinson, George (Gina) Schmidt, Belfield, Leo(Margaret) Schmidt, San Jose, CA, David (Kathy) Schmidt, Belfield; six sisters, Ann (Leonard) Buresh, Fargo, Betty (Eugene) Brinster, Portland, OR, Leona (Albert) Godlevsky, Manning, Rose (Tony)Wolf, Belfield, Lena (Dean) Oberlander, Gillette, WY, Edna (RobertP Privratsky, South Heart; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one infant sister, Alice and all aunts and uncles from both sides of the family.
