Berthold Agency?s Elbowoods High School in 1946 at the age of sixteen years old. She attended Dickinson State College and received a teaching certificate. She started her teaching career at the age of seventeen at the Country School in Marshall, ND. While teaching at Marshall she stayed with the Hanson Brothers and became life-long friends with them. Buddine taught next at a Country School in Keene, ND. While Buddine was in Keene, she resided with Mr. and Mrs. Angus Kennedy Jr., and again developed a life-long friendship with the Kennedy family and the entire Keene community. After her experiences teaching at country schools in North Dakota, Buddine decided to further her education and attended college at New Mexico A & M in Las Cruces, NM. She competed on the rodeo team in barrel racing, goat tying, and roping. In 1956 Buddine was crowned the New Mexico State University Rodeo Queen. While attending New Mexico State, Buddine developed many friends with her kindness and quick wit. Buddine finished her education at Dickinson State University with a bachelors of science degree in education. She resumed her teaching career on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. In 1962, she moved to Southern California and taught at various public schools, including Riverside Community College. In the mid-1970s, Buddine moved to Colorado where she was involved in the development of the American Indian Higher Education Consortium. She became director of curriculum and assisted in the development of American Indian Colleges throughout the nation. Buddine ended her teaching career in the mid-90s at the Mandaree Public School. Buddine had a particular love for children and her students were an important part of her life. She coached the girl?s basketball team for Rubudioux High School as well as managing the Girls Athletic Department. During this time, her love of children was apparent by the expressions of love she showed her nieces and nephews by returning to the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation with many gifts for all of them. Buddine always had time for all her family members, especially so in their times of need. Not only did Buddine have an outstanding teaching career, but she was also an avid horsewoman and staunch competitor in the rodeo arena. Buddine became the North Dakota Rodeo Association Champion Barrel Racer in the late 1950s. It was during this time period that Buddine also rode some saddle broncs at the local rodeos, including the famed Killdeer Mountain Round-Up. Buddine was also instrumental in helping many local cowboys and cowgirls in their rodeo careers. Throughout her rodeo career, she became friends with many world champions including: Casey Tibbs, Marty Woods, Winston Bruce, Sammy Thurman, and many others. She had a special relationship with horses. Among the many, she especially loved her champion horse Cricket, and the last horse she trained, Missy Jo. Buddine loved to ride and chase wild horses. She chased horses with one of the elder Fox?s in Mandaree and with ?Judge? Leo Sorenson here in Twin Buttes. In 1960 she was the ?round-up boss? while rounding up horses on her brother Buzz?s ranch with the Albert Neidhardt crew while Buzz was away in the army. Buddine was married to George W.
