A funeral service for Gary A. Cota, 76, of Dickinson, will be held at 10:00 a. m. , Monday, December 1, 2014 at Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson. Military Rites will be presented by the Dickinson Honor Guard. Burial will take place in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND. A Family Receiving Friends service will be held from 3:00 p. m. to 5:00 p. m. , Sunday, November 30, 2014 at Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson. Gary passed away Sunday, November 23, 2014 at his home in Dickinson. On November 23, 2014, after a nine year battle with cancer, Gary Arthur Cota passed away peacefully in his home with his loving wife and family by his side. Gary was born January 2, 1938 at Bottineau, ND the son of Lela Amanda (Johnson) and George Ernest Cota. He attended Rendahl Country School and graduated from Dunseith High School in 1956. Gary enlisted in the Army June 22, 1960 and served in the signal Corps and Military Police in North Carolina and Puerto Rico. He received an honorable discharge June 4, 1963. He worked for MJ McGuire at Rugby, ND in auto body repair work. On May 6, 1965 Gary was united in marriage to the love of his life Darla Mae Brummond in Sisseton, SD. He worked for the North Dakota truck regulatory, living at Petersburg, Crosby, Grafton and West Fargo. He worked for NoDak Mutual Insurance at Jamestown as a claims adjuster and chief underwriter. In 1972 he worked at International Peace Gardens as a foreman and then went to work at Minot Air Force Base as a painter. In 1979 to 82 he worked for NDDot as patrol officer at Dickinson and then worked for Western Crude which later became Texaco. Gary worked for KD Motors of Dickinson and also was a BNSF rail crew bus driver. He retired in 2002. Gary liked collecting Texaco memorabilia, especially small replicas. He was very proud of a 1929 model A car and a 1968 Torino he had owned and restored. Car races were very enjoyable for him. He was very proud of his family, children, and grandchildren. Gary is survived by his wife of 49 years, Darla of Dickinson, ND; sons Maynard (Sheila) and their daughter Brooklyn of Grand Forks, ND, and Dean (Denise) and their children Kaytlyn, Amanda, and Dawson of Fargo, ND; brother-in-law, Arlyn (Leone) Brummond of Laramie, WY; sister-in-laws, Eileen Brummond, Sandra Duschscherer, Valda Mahle all of Granville, ND, and Judy Brummond of Red Lake, MN; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents George and Lela; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Violet and Maynard Brummond; grandson Jesse; brother-in-laws Leslie and Mylen Brummond, Adam Duschscherer and Arne Mahle.
