Gary Ray Hartse, 62, of Wibaux passed away September 1, 2022 at Fallon Medical Complex in Baker, MT.

Gary grew up on the Carlyle Hartse farm and attended schools in Carlyle, Beach, and Golva. His love for farming started at an early age, working with Butch O’ Connor’s harvesting crews throughout the country each summer, starting in the south and working his way north during harvest season. He enlisted in the Job Corps and went to school in Utah where he learned the trades of construction and heavy equipment operating. Returning to Baker, he began working with Zion Construction. Later he worked in the oilfield doing roughneck work and later as a tool pusher, taking him around the Rocky Mountain region. He worked for Bo-Mac, Grace, and Nabors to name a few.

On June 27, 1987, Gary married the love of his life Karen Skillman in Casper, WY. To this union three boys were born, Dusty, Rusty, and Derrick. In 1992 he began trucking alongside his brother, Al. After Karen passed, he reignited his passion of farming in the Carlyle area. He started G & O Truckin & Cuttin and began custom combining in the area, along with farming his own land. He built this business from the ground up and grew it into a large operation, servicing land all over the region. Gary enjoyed riding his motorcycle as well as spending time in the fields. He especially loved his grandchildren and spending time with family, always making sure everyone was taken care of and connected.

Gary is survived by two sons, Dusty (Ashley) Hartse of Laurel, MT, and Derrick (Kylie) Hartse of Billings, MT; his brother Al (Gerrianne) Hartse of Dickinson; sister Dawn Heid of Marmarth; 6 grandchildren Harley, Cooper, and Lincoln Hartse, Dexter Hartse, Kennedy and Madden Hartse; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Gemma.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Karen; son, Rusty; and brother, Boyd.
