Funeral Service for Gary Rodney Hurley, 72 of Baker, MT will be 11:00 a. m. Thursday, November 16, 2006 at the Baker Community Church with Pastor Mark Arnold officiating with special music by Alice Kay Schweigert and Terry Bruha. Internment will follow in the family lot in the Bonnievale Cemetery at Baker, MT with Herb O?Donnell, Fred Hoff, Fay Beach, Bill Zupanik, Richard Stark and George Hauser as pallbearers. Visitation will be 11:00 a. m. to 8:00 p. m. on Wednesday, November 15, 2006 in the Chapel of Stevenson Funeral Home in Baker. Gary Rodney Hurley was born on September 18, 1934 to Michael Francis and Mildred Stella (Christenson) Hurley in Baker, MT. At a young age, Gary and his family moved to Dawson MN. In 1942, the Hurley family returned to Baker where Gary grew up and attended Snowy Basin Country School and Baker City Schools. Gary graduated from Baker High School in 1952. Following his graduation, Gary worked in the Baker area driving truck in the oilfield. Gary met and in 1959 married Audrey Rue in Rhame, ND. To this union Toby, Collette, Evan and Stuart were born. After they married, Gary and Audrey moved to South Dakota where Gary drove gravel truck during the construction of the Missile Silos for the Department of Defense. From South Dakota, they moved back to Montana settling in Glasgow where they owned and operated a drive-in restaurant. Eventually the family moved back to Baker, where Gary worked various jobs in Eastern Montana. Gary went to work for Sheehan and Reliable Exploration companies as a permit man. This was a job Gary loved and worked for the next twenty-five years until his retirement. In February 1994, Gary met Sheri Singer and the two have enjoyed each other?s companionship for almost thirteen years. Gary enjoyed fishing, spending time with his friends; farming had a special spot in his heart, but his main love was for his grandchildren and great-grandchild. Gary passed away unexpectedly Saturday evening, November 11, 2006 at Fallon Medical Complex in Baker. Gary is survived by his best friend, Shari Singer, a daughter, Collette (Russ) Maw, Eagle, ID; two sons, Toby Hurley, Baker, MT and Stuart (Mandi) Hurley, Meridian, ID; three brothers, Mike (Kathy) Hurley, Alamogordo, NM, Jim (Linda) Hurley, Baker, MT and Stan (Carol) Hurley, Cortez, CO; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He is preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Mildred; a son, Evan Hurley; two brothers in infancy, Wayne Hurley and Patrick Hurley.
