Gary D. Witte was born February 11, 1943 in Dickinson, to William L. and Grace (O’Bleness) Witte. Gary grew up on the family farm near Regent, attending school and graduating from Regent High School.  After high school, Gary met Carol Thoreson and the two were married on October 14, 1962 at First Lutheran Church in Ada, MN.  Gary enlisted in the US Army and was discharged in 1965.  Gary and Carol made their home briefly in Dickinson before settling on the family farm near Regent.  It was here where they made their home and raised their two sons, David and Jeremy.

Gary was active in the church, serving as treasurer for many years.  He also served on the North Dakota Safflower Council and Hettinger County Weed board.  Gary enjoyed gardening and spent many hours in his greenhouse.  He built miniature I.C. engines, as well as building and flying model airplanes.  In December of 2013, he ordered plans to build a Koala single seat airplane.  A couple years later he purchased a partially built Ultra Cruiser. Any free time that Gary had was spent in the air.

Gary was survived by his wife of 60 years, Carol; son, Jeremy (Melissa) Witte, Dickinson; daughter-in-law Lenore Witte, Regent; grandchildren, Devin, Dylan, Jacob, and Caleb Witte; brothers, Louis (Margee) Witte, Regent; Richard (Leslie) Witte, West Fargo; sister-in-law Dianne Witte, Edgerton, WI; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded by both of his parents, Grace and Bill, son David and brother Jim.
