Funeral services for George J. Dietz, 91, of Dickinson, ND will be 10 a. m. , Friday January 8, 2010 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Dickinson, ND with Pastor Steven Tangen officiating. Military Rites will be presented by the Dickinson Honor Guard. Burial will be at 3 p. m. , (CST), Friday, January 8, 2010 in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND. Time of Fellowship will take place at Bethel Lutheran Church, 615 East Turnpike, Bismarck, ND, following the burial service. Visitation will be 9 a. m. to 9 p. m. , Thursday, January 7, 2010 at Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson, ND with a Prayer Service at 6:30 p. m. George passed away January 5, 2010 at St Joseph?s Hospital and Health Center, Dickinson, ND. George J. Dietz was born November 6, 1918 to Andrew and Josephine (Reiter) Dietz in Mott, ND. At a young age the family moved to Belfield, ND. George attended country school south of Belfield. After school, he began working for the CCC, building the loop road through Theodore Roosevelt National Park. George enlisted in the United States Army at the beginning of World War II and served there for the next five years. After being honorably discharged, he returned to North Dakota. On April 27, 1946, George married Evelyn Kaelberer in New Salem, ND. The couple made their home in Belfield, where George worked at the Post Office. He became Belfield?s Post Master in 1957 and worked there until he retired after 34 years of service. During their retirement, George and Evelyn enjoyed spending summers at their Lake Sakakawea Home on Little Knife Bay where they fished and winters were spent traveling south. They also enjoyed traveling the country, and were fortunate enough to visit all 50 states. George was a skilled woodworker and very fond of riding his four wheeler. Georges wife, Evelyn, his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were truly his life. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Evelyn; son, Larry (Candice) Dietz of Fargo, ND; daughter, Cindy (Gary) Rath of Bismarck, ND; grandchildren, David (Misty) Dietz, Melissa (Loren) Dietz Tschosik, , all of Fargo; Mark (Kayla) Rath, Kari Rath, all of Bismarck; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lena Wanner, Dickinson, ND. George was preceded in death by both parents; son, Dennis Dietz; five brothers, Andrew, Tony, Ben, Adam, and John Dietz. The Family suggests memorials to Dakota Boys Ranch, Minot, ND or to the Salvation Army.
