Mass of Christian Burial for George Silvester Halmans, 84, of Baker, MT will be at 10:00 a. m. Tuesday, July 17, 2007 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Baker with the Rev. Father Thomas Tobin celebrating. Rite of Committal will follow in the family lot in the Old St. John’s Catholic Cemetery at Baker, MT. Visitation will be 3:00 p. m. to 9:00 p. m. on Monday, July 16, 2007 with a Rosary & Vigil Service at 7:00 p. m. in the Chapel of Stevenson Funeral Home in Baker. George passed away on Tuesday, July 10, 2007 at Fallon Medical Complex Nursing Home in Baker. George was born November 22, 1922 the son of John and Anna (Ziemer) Halmans. He and his older brother Bert grew up north of Baker and went to the O’Donnell country school. George stayed with the Cunningham’s while he went to high school in Baker. In 1950 he took over his Dad’s place farming and ranching. George did custom farming in the area for others along with his own. In 1951 George was married to Marilyn Patton in Baker. To this union two children were born, Anna Lea and Bill. After he divorced, he was married to Bernace Tiedemann Elmore. They continued farming, ranching and raising chickens. At the age of 50 they sold the ranch and moved to his Dad’s original homestead place where they made their home. George, Bernace and Bill purchased and operated the Trails Inn Bar and Caf? in Plevna and operated it for several years. After Bill’s accidental death in 1979 they sold the bar and returned to the ranch until moving to Baker in 1995. He is survived by his daughter, Anna (Mike) Griffith, Baker; two grandsons, Matt (Amanda) Griffith, Bozeman, MT and Patrick (Angel) Griffith, Rapid City, SD; a great-grandson, Micaiah Griffith, Rapid City; a step daughter Kay (Bob) Beard, Colstrip; two step sons, Troy (Audrey) Elmore, Colorado Springs, CO and Roy Elmore, Billings; a brother, Bert (Elenore) Halmans, Baker; and a special friend, Lois Carson, BakerHe was preceded in death by his wife, Bernace and a son, Bill.
