Funeral Mass for George Hartman, 85 formerly of Killdeer will be 10:00 a. m. Monday, August 22, 2005 at St. Joseph?s Catholic Church in Killdeer with Father Jerry Ruelle, celebrating. Burial will follow in the Killdeer Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday, August 20, 2005 from 1:00 p. m. to 4:00 p. m. at Stevenson-Mischel-Olson Chapel in Dickinson and will continue on Sunday at Stevenson-Mischel-Olson Chapel in Killdeer from 1:00 p. m. to 9:00 p. m. with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p. m. Monday visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. George passed away Wednesday, August 17, 2005 at Shelter Cedar Gardens in Gilbert, AZ. He was born April 23, 1920 at Fayette, ND, the son of Joseph and Elizabeth Schmaltz Hartman. He grew up and attended school at Fayette. After school, George served in President Roosevelt?s C. C. C. ?s located in Medora, ND. On November 24, 1941, George was married to Stella Thomas at St. Edward?s Catholic Church in Fayette. George and Stella farmed in the Fayette area for two years then farmed and ranched north of Killdeer. They started one of the first Vermeer Dealerships in western North Dakota in 1972 and received numerous sales award. They moved to Killdeer in 1976, retired from farming in 1980 and retired from the Vermeer Dealership in 1982. George and Stella spent several winters in Mesa, AZ and summers in Killdeers until Stella?s death in 1993. George married June Leahy on June 7, 1997. They spent winters in Arizona and summers in Fargo until declining health in 2004 prevented George?s return to North Dakota. George loved western North Dakota and took great pride in farming. He also loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, playing the harmonica, listening to music, dancing, fishing and attending rodeos. George had a great sense of humor and enjoyed visiting with friends and relatives. He was a member of the Lions Club and Knights of Columbus. Survivors include his wife, June of Mesa, AZ; three sons: Dennis (Doreen) Hartman of Killdeer, ND, Kenneth Hartman of Fargo, ND and Myron Hartman of Las Vegas, NV; four daughters: Phyllis (David) Miller of Sandy, UT, Diane (William) Hill of Fargo, ND, Elaine (Jeff) Klusmann of Mesa, AZ and Char Hartman of Phoenix, AZ; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Joseph (Irene) Hartman of Billings, MT; two sisters: Beatrice (Brad) Branstetter of Oknard, CA and Eleanor Mischel of Upper Sandusky, OH; two brothers-in-law: Joe (LaVonne) Thomas of Rosalia, WA and Dan Schepper of Killdeer; a sister-in-law, Philomina (Elsworth) Hovden of Killdeer and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Stella; two infant son; two infant daughtesr; two brothers: Frank and Mike Hartman; four sisters: Monica Roller, Victoria Herold, Betty Frenzel and Perpetua Hartman who died as a child. Memorials are preferred to the Medicine Hole Golf Course.
