Funeral Mass for George J. Kostelecky, 90, of Dickinson, will be 9:00 a. m. , Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Dickinson with Msgr. Patrick Schumacher celebrating. Burial will be 2:00 p. m. CST in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.
Visitation for George will be from 4:00 p. m. to 8:00 p. m. , Monday, December 30, 2013 at Stevenson Funeral Home with a rosary and vigil service being held at 7:00 p. m.
George passed away Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at St. Benedict’s Health Care Center in Dickinson.
George J. Kostelecky was born December 6, 1923 in Dickinson, ND the son of John and Stasie (Hondl) Kostelecky. He grew up on the family farm south of Dickinson, attended country school and helped his parents on the farm. On June 22, 1942, George and Dorothy (Binstock) were united in marriage at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in New Hradec. Shortly after their marriage, George enlisted in the US Army and served in the Calvary during WW II. After being honorably discharged, he returned to Dickinson where Dorothy and George raised their family on their farm northwest of Dickinson. In 1975, the couple retired to Dickinson and enjoyed spending their winters in Sun Lake, AZ. George loved being around people and always made time for his grandchildren. He enjoyed playing cards, golfing, fishing, bowling, traveling, old time music and dancing. George was a member of the Eagles, Elks Lodge, St. Anthony Club, American Legion of Belfield, German Hungarian and Knights of Columbus.
George is survived by his sons, Elmer (Kathleen) of Blackhawk, SD, Rodney (Dawn) and Gordon both of Dickinson; five grandchildren, Ryan (Lori) Kostelecky, Wayne Kostelecky, Tennille (Dan) Weising, Brent Kostelecky, and Whitney (Dustin) Buckman; one great-grandson, Koltyn Buckman; one brother, Robert (Philippene) Kostelecky of Dickinson; and one sister, Dorothy Luptak of Dickinson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Stasie; his wife, Dorothy; and son Norman.
