George passed away Saturday, February 24, 2018 at his home in Dickinson.

George was born February 4, 1926 northwest of Dickinson, the son of Frank and Mary (Kubischta) Miller. Growing up, south of the farm he attended farm school through the eighth grade. After graduation at age 13, he helped on the farm. He, his brothers and his dad overhauled cars and tractors. George was drafted into the US Army. He left for service the day after his 19th birthday. Following his training, he served in the Philippines and Korea. He was honorably discharged in two years as a T4 and returned home. George worked in Dickinson for six months. He met Evelyn Marie Ficek at a dance in New Hradec and a year later they were married on October 27, 1948. They farmed together with Evelyn’s parents for a couple of years before they bought the farm. George did a harvest run from 1958-1963 through Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado and South Dakota. George and Evelyn raised five children, Sharon, Shirley, DuWayne, DelVern and DeLaine. Alongside farming, he did garage work, overhauling cars and tractors, repairing and rewinding electric motors, did field spraying for farmers with a self-propelled sprayer that he had made and widened rims for tractors. George started no-till farming in 1986 with a no-till drill that DuWayne and he had made, using that same drill until he quit farming in 2003.

George was active in the NFO and Amway. He was a member of Knight of Columbus, Eagles and St. Pius Verin. He was proud to be a Catholic. George loved old time music and classic country music and his hobby was making cd’s and dvd’s of country and old time music. He also enjoyed dancing and wasn’t too fond of sports, especially football.
