George Sykora

George J. Sykora, 88, Dickinson, died Friday, May 9, 2003, at St. Benedict?s Health Center, Dickinson. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a. m. , Monday, May 12, 2003, at St. Patrick?s Catholic Church, Dickinson with the Rev. Jerry Kautzman celebrating. Interment will be in St. Patrick?s Cemetery, Dickinson. Visitation will be held Sunday from 3:30 p. m. to 9 p. m. at Price-Murphy Funeral Home. There will be a 4th Degree Rosary led by Deacon Gene Morman followed by a prayer service led by Fr. Jerry Kautzman at 7 p. m. Sunday at Price-Murphy Funeral Home. George J. Sykora was born September 23, 1914, in Stark County to Anton and Agnes (Fisher) Sykora. He attended school at Versippi. On September 21, 1936, he married Veronica Binstock at St. Joseph?s Catholic Church, Dickinson. Following their marriage, they lived and farmed 10 miles northeast of Dickinson until 1976, when they moved into Dickinson. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, playing cards and farming. He was a member of St. Patrick?s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and the 4th Degree. George and Veronica celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary just days prior to her death on September 27, 1999. George moved to Evergreen Inn in February of 2000 and entered St. Benedict?s Health Center in December of 2002. He is survived by: one son, George (Linda) Sykora, Dickinson, two daughters, Geraldine (Ervin) Metz, Dickinson and Eileen Haugen, Grand Forks; eight grandchildren; two step grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and four step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by: his wife; parents; son-in-law, Lars Haugen; three brothers and four sisters. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to: St. Joseph LifeCare Foundation, Cancer Care Center, 30 West 7th Street, Dickinson, ND 58601.
