George Underwood, 74, of Beach, ND and formerly of Sentinel Butte, ND passed away on Thursday, January 29, 2009 at the Wibaux County Nursing Home in Wibaux, MT. In honoring George?s wishes, cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held at a later date in the Underwood family lot in the Sentinel Butte Cemetery and will be announced at that time. George Arthur Underwood was born a son of Arthur and Alice (Seeley) Underwood on July 19, 1934, in Beach, ND. George grew up on the family ranch south of Sentinel Butte in Garner Township. He attended country school through the eighth grade. George then attended high school at the Sheyenne River Academy in Harvey, ND. In 1961, George moved to Beach where he drove truck. While in Beach, George met the love of his life, Bonnie Jean Quast, and the two were married in Beach on October 18, 1961. To this union two wonderful sons, Tyler and Steve were born. George and Bonnie lived in Beach until 1966, when they moved to the Underwood ranch. George enjoyed farming and ranching and was an excellent steward of the land. George was a loyal and proud owner of International Harvester farm equipment and trucks. While ranching, George drove semi part-time for John Hanson during the late 70?s and early 80?s. George and Bonnie made their home on the ranch until this January, when they moved in to Beach where they made their home. After a short but hard fought battle with cancer, George entered the Wibaux County Nursing Home last Thursday, January 22nd. George served on the Garner Township Board, and was a member of the Golden Valley County Feeders Association. He enjoyed the country way of life. Brandings were always a huge event at the ranch. Over the years, George had various horse teams. He enjoyed working with his horses and participated in various parades with them. On one occasion, George escorted Santa and Mrs. Clause with one of his teams and wagon. Georges? greatest love in life was for his wife, sons and friends. George is survived by his loving wife, Bonnie Underwood of Beach, ND; two sons, Tyler (Vernette) Underwood and Steve Underwood both of Aurora, CO; one brother, John (Ilo) Underwood of Loma Linda, CA; three sisters, Marianne Hoag of Yucaipa, CA, Alice (Allen) Kruger of Dawson, ND and Cathy (Matt) Lapitsky of Anaheim, CA and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Art and Alice Underwood. Arrangements are under the care of Stevenson Funeral Home of Baker, MT.
