On April 11, 1939, Gerry Nagel was born in Hebron, ND, the daughter of Martin and Anna Nagel. She grew up in Hebron and attended Hebron Public School, graduating in 1957.
On October 26, 1957, she married the love of her life, Vernon Glass, on the Army base at Fort Riley, Kansas. They lived in Junction City, Kansas, while Vernon was in basic training at Fort Riley and transferred to Bad Krueznach, Germany, when Vernon was stationed there.
Gerry returned to the United States and started raising their family. Gerry and Vernon lived in Hebron in a house built by her father, later moving to their farm north of Hebron. She decided to further her education by attending Assumption College in Richardton for one year until the college closed. She then went on to Dickinson State College, obtaining a degree in Business.
Besides working on the farm, Gerry was employed as a bookkeeper at both Urbans, Inc. for one year and the Hebron Credit Union for 14 years. She was also a head cook at Marian Manor Healthcare Center in Glen Ullin for 13 years.
She was an excellent cook, baker, and seamstress (including sewing Barbie doll clothes). She enjoyed reading, gardening, playing cards and board games, playing piano, singing, watching westerns, acrylic painting, square dancing, fishing, rodeos, car races, fairs, concerts, the Norsk Hostfest, Hazen Jam Sessions and most of all spending time with her family.
Gerry was a member of the Brownies, Girl Scouts, Lookout Homemakers, Mrs. Jaycee’s, St. John United Church of Christ and St. John Choir.
Gerry will be dearly missed by her family and is survived by her husband of 65 years, Vernon Glass, of Hebron, ND; daughters, Tami (Joseph) Lucy, Powers Lake, ND and Lake Havasu City, AZ, and Valeri (Jerry) Wagner, Wimbledon, ND; son, Jeff (Julie Wooden) Glass, Hebron, ND; and sister, Helen Schneider, Hebron, ND. She is also survived by grandchildren, Lexi and Jarard Lucy, Chastity (Mike) Beard and Fawn Wilde, and Gabby, Capri, Ari and Luke Wagner; and great grandchildren, Baylee and Landon Beard, Kily Durward and Alexa Hall.
Gerry was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Marian Slag and Katherine Porovich; brothers, Martin, Carl and Mike Nagel; and grandson, Matthew Wagner.
