Funeral Services for Gertrude Marie Barker, 92 of Killdeer will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 6, 2004 at Normanna Lutheran Church in Dunn Center with Pastor Aanen Gjovik and Pastor Philip Lien officiating. Burial will follow in the Dunn Center Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, October 4, 2004 from 9:00 to 12:00 at Stevenson-Mischel-Olson Chapel in Dickinson 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. at Stevenson-Mischel-Olson Chapel in Killdeer. Visitation will continue on Wednesday, one hour prior to service at the Normanna Lutheran Church in Dunn Center. Gertrude passed away Saturday October 2, 2004 at Hill Top Home of Comfort in Killdeer. She was born in a sod house on her beloved North Dakota prairie near Halliday on July 7th, 1912, to Russell and Carrie Bertha (Jacobs) Hamblin. She grew up and attended schools at Dunn Center, graduating from high school there in 1920. Gertrude was married to Lon C. Barker at Manning in September of 1934. They lived at Dunn Center where they raised their family. Gertrude worked in home care and was also the custodian for the Normanna Lutheran Church for 20 years. Gertrude wrote a news article, ‘Party Line” for many years for the Killdeer Herald. She helped write and edit much of the Dunn County History, ?Dauntless Dunn?. Hill Top Home of Comfort in Killdeer, with its many wonderful staff and volunteers, was her home for the past 15 years. Gertrude enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing and babysitting which she did for many years after her own children were grown. She also loved music, especially playing the piano and singing with friends and neighbors. She will be loved and remembered for her wonderful sense of humor, positive attitude, sharp witt and hearty laugh that brought joy to many. Gertrude is survived by her six children: Delma Cook, Alameda, CA; Vesta (Vicki) Botz Ellis and her husband, Monty of Pinole, CA; Muriel (Mickie) Klups and her husband, George of Ironwood, MI; David Barker and his wife, Betty of Springfield, OR; Charles Barker and his wife, Cheryl of Sarasota, FL and Cynthia (Cindy) Koseski and her husband, Jim of Victoria, TX; two brothers, Harold Hamblin of Arlington, WA; Glenn Hamblin of San Manuel, AZ; seventeen grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Lon C. Barker; infant daughter, Joy Naomi; brothers Miles and Leonard Hamblin; grandson Darin Klups; great grandson Kurt Thompson; and a great-great granddaughter, Brea Tauer.
