Funeral Service for Gilmar Rotvold, 99, of Dickinson, formerly of Hillsboro, will be 11:00 a. m. , Friday, April 12, 2013 at St. John Lutheran Church in Dickinson with Pastor Lisa Lewton officiating. Burial will be in the Bowman Cemetery following a lunch at the church.
Visitation for Gilmar will be 2:00 p. m. to 6:00 p. m. , Thursday, April 11th at Stevenson Funeral Home in Dickinson.
Gilmar passed away on Friday, April 5, 2013 at the Southwest Healthcare, Bowman, ND.
Gilmar Rotvold was born September 7, 1913 in Gatzke, MN, the son of Lars E. and Martha (Kirkvold) Rotvold. At age eleven, he moved with his family to a farm east of Hillsboro, ND. Gilmar farmed with his father and brother along with working at Scheels Hardware Store. While at the store, he met the love of his life, Arline. On June 16, 1945, Gilmar and Arline Weigum were married in Dickinson, ND. They farmed in the Hillsboro and Enderlin areas, moving to Valley City in 1991 and to Dickinson in 2000. After 67 years, Gilmar lost his soulmate Arline on May 31, 2012. In August, Gilmar moved to the Grant, Edna, and Luke Paulson farm. He enjoyed the time he spent there and became great friends with their dog Grizz. In November of 2012, due to failing health, Gilmar moved into the Southwest Healthcare Facility in Bowman.
Gilmar is survived by his brother, Lawrence (Vee) Rotvold of Broomfield, CO; sister, Lorette Cornman of Chandler, AZ, step-sister, Barbara Maynard of Clark, SD; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Arline; brothers, Paul, Ingolf, and Lorry; sisters, Ellen Wilson, Borghild Trexler, and Ruby Huseby.
