Funeral Services for Gladys Burch Moseley, 100, of Baker, MT will be 2:30 p. m. Friday, December 19, 2008 in the Chapel of Stevenson Funeral Home in Baker with the Rev. Mark D. Arnold officiating. Interment will follow in the Moseley Family lot in Bonnievale Cemetery at Baker. Visitation will be from 1:00 p. m. to 9:00 p. m. on Thursday, December 18th, at Stevenson Funeral Home with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p. m. Gladys passed away on December 15, 2008, at Quality Personal Care in Baker, MT. Meta Gladys Moseley was born on December 29, 1907, a daughter of Robert Ellis and Aleta (McDaniel) Burch in rural Bertram, Burnet County, TX. In 1908, Gladys and her family moved to the Ridgway community in southern Carter County. When Gladys was 13, her mother died of pneumonia. Her father later married Elma ?Pete? Richards, who became her step-mother. Gladys attended the Johnston Country School through eighth grade and Carter County High School in Ekalaka, graduating in 1926. After graduating from high school, Gladys attended Western Montana Teachers College where she earned a teaching certificate. Gladys returned to Carter County where she taught country school for four years. During the summer months she worked in the County Assessor office in Ekalaka. While living in Ekalaka, Gladys met Claude Robert Moseley, and the two were married on June 29, 1931 in Ekalaka. To this union two daughters were born: Aleta Ann and Mary Lee. Gladys and Claude lived on a ranch on Box Elder Creek south of Ridgway until November 1938, when they moved to a ranch south of Marmarth, ND. In 1942, Gladys and Claude bought a ranch north east of Baker in the O?Donnell community. Gladys enjoyed being a teacher, and in 1945, she began teaching in rural schools in Fallon County until 1957 when she took a teaching position in the Baker schools. With her passion as a teacher and her desire to be the best, she attended Black Hills State University in Spearfish, SD where she received a Bachelors Degree in Education. After teaching some of the best students a teacher could have, Gladys retired in 1973. Gladys and Claude moved into Baker in 1950. Claude passed away on February 2, 1965. Gladys stayed very active through out her life. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Charity Chapter #60 since she joined in Ekalaka in 1930; A faithful member of the Baker Community Church and it?s Ladies Aid; the Anticline Homemakers Club; Fallon County Council on Aging where she served as a Referral Technician for 10 years; the Fallon County RSVP Advisory Board; AARP; National Retired Teacher Association and the Fallon Medical Complex Pinkies. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, working in her yard, feeding wild birds, crocheting, knitting and other handworks. Gladys loved to do oil painting and working on crossword and jigsaw puzzles. Gladys traveled to all of the 50 states except for Ohio, and visited Mexico and most of the Canadian Providences. Above all, Gladys loved her family and friends. Gladys is survived by her two daughters, Aleta Ann (Hank) Haagenstad of Clancy, MT and Mary Lee (George) Dietz of Baker, MT; her brother, Houghton ?HB? Burch, Spearfish, SD; four grandchildren, Cathy Stevens, Karen (Rob) Buffington, Dawn Marie (Chuck) Lee and Dennis (Gracie) Dietz; nine great-grandchildren, Andy (Stephanie) Stevens, Lauren Stevens, Gretchen Stevens, Ben Dunham, MeKenzie Lee, Victoria (Nick) Powell, Douglas Dietz, William Dietz and Brooke Dietz; three great-great grandchildren, Kara Stevens, Emily Stevens and Logan Powell and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Aleta Burch, her step-mother Elma Burch, her husband, Claude, her three brothers, Ellis Burch, RO Burch and Harold Burch and her sister Lahoma Marston.
