Funeral Services for Glenn E. Frye, 84, of Ekalaka, MT, will be 2:00 p. m. Thursday, May 22, 2008, in the Chapel of Stevenson Funeral Home in Ekalaka with Llane Carroll officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot in Beaver Lodge Cemetery at Ekalaka with Military Rites by the Ekalaka American Legion Post #7885 and VFW Post #60. Visitation will be 2:00 p. m. to 9:00 p. m. on Wednesday, May 21st, with a Friends and Family Service at 7:00 p. m. in the Chapel. Glenn passed away on Saturday, May 17, 2008, at Dahl Memorial Healthcare in Ekalaka, MT. Glenn Edward Frye was born on August 7, 1923, a son of Albert and Anna (Ambrose) Frye in Ekalaka, MT. Glenn grew up in the Opechee area east of Ekalaka. When Glenn was 8 years old, his father died. Glenn’s mother met and married Charles Carroll. Also joining Glenn?s family was his brother, Lloyd Carroll. Glenn attended the Spring Valley country school through 8th grade, and Carter County High School his freshman year. For the next three years, Glenn attended high school in Malin, OR, where Glenn lived with his uncle. While living in Oregon, Glenn did his share of work on the farm, where he helped milk 25 head of milk cows twice a day, and stayed active in school sports, especially football. Glenn?s greatest achievement in school was graduating as Valedictorian of his senior class in Malin. After graduation, Glenn returned to Ekalaka. While home, Glenn met a young lady by the name of Ethel Arnold at a local dance. The two would become friends. Eventually, Glenn returned to Oregon where he worked as a lumberjack in the forests. In 1943, Glenn joined the United States Army ? Air Force. Glenn served his country with honor and dignity during WWII. On January 22, 1944, while stationed in Wichita, KS, Glenn married his best friend, Ethel Arnold. To this union Richard Allen ?Rick,? Shirley Laureen ?Rene,? Betty Jean, William Charles ?Bill? and John Michael ?Jack? were born. Glenn was stationed at various bases where he was a weapons instructor. Prior to his Honorable Discharge, Glenn was stationed on the Galapagos Islands. Glenn returned to Ekalaka, where he and Ethel took over the family farm. Two years later, Glenn and his family moved to Northern California where he helped his brother Bert, logging in the forests. It was the first time Glenn would earn $100 for a day?s worth of work! In 1949, Glenn and his family returned to Ekalaka. In 1954, Glenn and Ethel moved to the Arnold farm south of Ekalaka, where Glenn and Ethel made their home. Glenn was active in the daily operations of the farm right up until his death. Glenn had high standards for work ethics, which gained the respect of those who knew him. Glenn worked hard and lived life to its fullest. Glenn enjoyed square dancing, playing horse shoes and cards, hunting, fishing, dancing, shooting sports and playing ping-pong. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. Glenn enjoyed taking them fishing, and following them in their sports. Glenn was an avid Bulldogs fan. Glenn never missed any dances when the group Jada played; this musical group consisted of Glenn?s children, Rick, Betty, Bill and Betty’s husband, Jerry. Glenn served on various boards and belonged to the VFW and Geological Society, and was a strong supporter and lifetime member of the NRA. Glenn is survived by his loving wife, Ethel Frye, Ekalaka, MT; his children, Rick Frye, Williston, ND; Rene (Jordan) LaBree, Ismay, MT; Betty (Jerry) Cline, Miles City, MT and Bill (Cathy) Frye, Ekalaka, MT; a daughter-in-law, Jane Frye, Worland, WY; a brother, Lloyd (Betty) Carroll, Ekalaka, MT; a sister, Verna Welch, Libby, MT; 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Glenn is preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Anna, his step-father, Charles Carroll, his son, Jack, two brothers, Bert and Albert Roy, and two sisters, Eleanora and Helen. A memorial has been established. Arrangements are under the care of Stevenson Funeral Home of Ekalaka, MT.
