Glenn passed away at the home of his son in Scottsdale, AZ on Saturday, July 23, 2011.
Glenn Philip Giese was born on July 28, 1948 to Archie and Hildegard (Albrecht) Giese in Bismarck, ND. He grew up on the family farm south of New Salem and graduated from New Salem High School in 1966. He graduated from North Dakota State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanized Agriculture. In the summers during his college years, he worked in Wyoming on the oil rigs and later joined the Army National Guard. He married Barbara Vizina on April 18, 1970 and together they had two sons, Eric and Shawn. Glenn began working at Slope Electric Cooperative in New England in 1972 and continued to work there until his retirement in 2007. Later, in his working career, he became involved in economic development and was influential in bringing the Dakota Women’s Correctional Center to New England. Glenn had quite an entrepreneurial spirit. He started New England Cablevision in 1980 and later Flasher Cablevision. He was also owner of New England Lumber for several years. In recent years, he founded Mall West Storage in Dickinson. Glenn was an active member of First Congregational United Church of Christ. He was involved with many charitable organizations including the Lions, Elks and American Legion. He enjoyed home improvement projects, snow skiing, and waterskiing. Glenn and his family spent most summer weekends at their cabin at Lake Tschida. Glenn looked forward to pheasant hunting each fall and snow skiing in Montana every winter. He loved riding his Harley Davidson and continued to ride until this past January. Almost two years ago, Glenn was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. After surgery, he moved to Arizona to live with his sons and continue his treatment. He packed in a life time of activities in the past year and a half, going to Disneyworld in Florida, a trip to Hawaii, hunting in North Dakota, multiple snow ski trips, and numerous visits to California. He enjoyed the Christmas season and loved spending time with his family. He fought a tough, but courageous battle with cancer, but in the end he died peacefully at home, surrounded by his family. The family would like to thank our Uncle Genaro Thode for all the love and care he gave to our father.
Glenn is survived by his sons Eric (Tina) Giese of Peoria, AZ and Shawn Giese of Scottsdale, AZ; his father Archie Giese of Bismarck; his brothers Craig (Michele) Giese of Bismarck and Bryan (Eileen) Giese of Mandan.
Glenn was preceded in death by his mother Hildegard Giese.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, for those desiring, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the New England Lions Club, New England American Legion, or the radiology department at the Mayo Clinic Arizona.
