He grew up and attended country school in the Houghton area. As a young boy, he began working for a local garage as a mechanic in Aberdeen, SD. He was always very proud that he was able to purchase his first car, a 1938 Dodge for $120 dollars and paid it off at $10 dollars a week. Glenn later went to work for the Forkel House Moving Co. in Aberdeen. He married Martha Forkel when he was 21 years old. In the late 50?s, Glenn began working for Schmering Construction and was with them for 15 years. Glenn went to work for the Milwaukee Rail Road where he operated heavy equipment, clearing track from Reeder, ND to Kinsey, MT. He later was promoted to heavy equipment mechanic and worked there until his retirement in 1985. After his divorce, Glenn was married to Marjorie (Kochel) Nelson on July 26, 1985 in Baker. During his semi-retirement, Glenn raised cattle, horses and sheep on his step-son-in-law?s farm south of Baker. He enjoyed his registered Appaloosa mares and raising colts. Glenn also enjoyed dancing in his younger years, listening to country western music as well as gospel singers. He especially loved his grandchildren and step-grandchildren.
