Mass of Christian Burial for Gloria Heggen, 87, of Meridian, ID formerly of Shepherd and Ekalaka, MT will be at 11:00 a. m. on Saturday, September 15, 2012, at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Ekalaka, MT. Rite of Committal will follow in Beaver Lodge Cemetery at Ekalaka. Visitation will be 5:00 p. m. to 9:00 p. m. on Friday, September 14th, at Stevenson Funeral Home in Ekalaka with a Rosary and Vigil Service at 7:00 p. m. Gloria passed away on Monday, September 10, 2012 at Life Care Center of Treasurer Valley in Boise, ID. Gloria Heggen was born February 14, 1925 in Ekalaka, Montana to George and Frances Gundlach. She attended high school in Ekalaka, graduating from Carter County High in 1943. She had the opportunity to spend the next 2 years with her aunt, Jo and cousin, Celeste in Los Angeles, CA where she attended UCLA and secretarial school. She returned to Montana and married Tom Heggen Jr. in 1949. They ranched near Ekalaka and raised their three children. During these years Gloria also worked for the ASCS and as the Civil Defense Director of Carter County. She was also a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church and St. Ann?s Altar Society. Gloria and Tom moved to Shepherd, Montana in 1994 and then moved on to Boise, ID in 2010. Gloria was an extremely talented woman whose creativity was evident in her natural abilities of art and music. She was able to play a variety of instruments and leaves behind her many works of art including paintings and pottery. Her love of flowers and gardening were always a passion and she could make anything grow. She was a master seamstress and carpenter as well, spending many years restoring antiques. Her talent was recognized in 1963 as she was named Mrs. Montana. She received the award for interior design in the 1963 Mrs. America contest. Gloria is survived by her husband of 63 years, Tommy; her three children, Neal Heggen of Boise, ID; Mikal Black of Meridian, ID, and Mauri (Kyle) Williams of Boerne, TX; five grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren and 11 brothers and sisters. She is preceded in death by her grandson, Blaise and two brothers, Harold and George.
