Gordon Ridl, 75, Dickinson, died Thursday, January 2, 2003, at St. Mary?s Hospital, Rochester, Minn. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a. m. Tuesday, January 7, 2003, at St. Patrick?s Catholic Church, Dickinson with the Reverend Austin Vetter, celebrating. Interment will be held at in the St. Patrick?s Cemetery with Military Rites provided by The Veterans Drill Team. Visitation will be 9 a. m. to 9 p. m. Monday at Price-Murphy Funeral Home with a rosary at 7 p. m. led by Deacon Joe and Vi Kappel. Gordon was born April 2, 1927, to Laudie and Frances (Kadrmas) Ridl on a farm northeast of Dickinson. He attended grade school in New Hradec as well as a country grade school. He graduated from Dickinson High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the U. S. Army where he served with the occupation forces in Japan. He also stood Honor Guard for General Douglas MacArthur. He married Agnes Enderud on June 6, 1949. Gordon received his Bachelor of Science degree from Dickinson State College. He then went on to earn a Masters of Science degree at Oregon State University in Corvallis, OR. Gordon was a teacher for 50 years. In recent years, he was a part-time teacher at SWMC Correctional Center. He also was a farmer and rancher for most of his life. He enjoyed woodworking and geology. Over the years, his civic activities included: Farmers Union board member, Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree and Grand Knight, interpreter for a visiting Czech basketball team, board member of the Czech Heritage Center, and assisted in regional low-income housing developments. His social memberships included: St. Anthony?s Club, The Elks, The Eagles, Rock and Gem Club, coronary support group, and Toastmasters. Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Joseph, sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Hank Gaebe of Kennewick, WA, as well as his infant son, Joseph. He is survived by: his wife, Agnes; one daughter, Jacquelyn; four sons, Jeff (Robin Reynolds), Dave (Rita), Doug (Mary), and Jim (Kathy); five grandchildren, Jesse, Ben (Crystal), Jake, Arin, and Danielle.
