Grace passed away Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at her home in Dickinson. Grace Ann Ficek was born August 4, 1934 in Dickinson, the daughter of Isadore and Tillie (Kadrmas) Ficek. She grew up on the family farm southeast of Manning and attended two years of school in New Hradec before attending Iota #5 Country School. Growing up, Grace helped her family on the farm. On June 11, 1951 Grace was united in marriage to George Hondl at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. To this union three children were born: Gary, Georgia, and Jimmy. In 1954, the family moved to their present day farm and has made it their home ever since. Grace loved being on the farm. She was content to spend time at home sewing, working on embroidery projects and crocheting. Being outdoors made her so happy. She could be found mowing her lawn with a push mower, tending to her beautiful trees, or working in her garden and flower beds but would often wonder why God made sparrows and blackbirds. Grace loved spending time in her kitchen baking and canning the produce from her garden. Her family brought her tremendous joy. She loved attending birthday parties for her great-grandchildren and being with her family at each holiday gathering. Grace was such a compassionate person and cared for her husband, George at home for 19 years after he suffered a major stroke. Her life was not easy but her faith in God was strong. Her greatest gift to her family was her Catholic faith and they are grateful for the countless rosaries she prayed for them. She was an inspiration to all and will be truly missed. Grace is survived by her sons, Gary (Charlotte) Hondl and Jimmy Hondl both of Dickinson; daughter, Georgia (Ron) Obritsch of Dickinson; three grandchildren, Kari Karlin, Justin (Karie) Obritsch, and Tracy (Travis) Simnioniw; eight great-grandchildren, Taylor & Daniel Karlin, Adam, Kyle, Syndie & Dylan Obritsch; and Samantha & Seth Simnioniw; brother, Modest Ficek of Dickinson; and two sisters, Gladys Kostelecky and Georgie Ann Ficek both of Dickinson. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and a granddaughter, Jennifer Hondl.
