Funeral Services for Grant Carlson, 89, of Killdeer, ND is 2:00 p. m. , Monday, November 19, 2007, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Killdeer, ND. Burial will follow in the Dun Center Cemetery in Dunn Center, ND. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2:00 p. m. to 9:00 p. m at the Stevenson Funeral Home, Killdeer followed by a Prayer Service at 7:00 p. m. at the Chapel. Visitation will continue on Monday from 9:00 a. m. until 11:00 at the Stevenson Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Grant passed away on Friday, November 16, 2007 surrounded by his loving family at St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck, ND. Grant was born, September 11, 1918, the son of Guy and Miriam (Sather) Carlson at the family farm north of Killdeer. He attended country school and graduated from Killdeer High School. Grant went on to college at Wahpeton for a short period until he was called home due to the sudden death of his father. He farmed and ranched with his mother and helped raise his four younger sisters. Grant was married to Mildred Knutson on October 15, 1950. To this union three children were born, Sydne, Kent and Gwen. Grant spent his entire life in the same home he was raised in until moving into Killdeer in 1984. He continued farming and ranching until he entered the Hill Top Home of Comfort in 2000. Although not actively involved with daily ranching activities he still enjoyed going out to the ranch. Grant enjoyed collecting historic memorabilia, watching the Minnesota Twins and High School Sports, especially watching his grandchildren participate in sporting events. He always enjoyed meeting and visiting with people. Grant was a member of the St. John?s Lutheran Church, Killdeer, Killdeer Masonic Lodge and past member of the Dickinson Elks and North Dakota Stockmen?s Association. He is survived by his daughter, Gwen (Robert) Hoffman, Oaks, ND; a son, Kent (Jodi) Carlson, Killdeer, ND; four grandchildren, Nancy (Kevin) Gelinske, Oakes, ND, Chad (Judy) Hoffman, Oakes, ND, Kory Carlson and Klay Carlson both of Killdeer, ND; three great-grandchildren, Shelby, Peyten and Barrett Gelinske; two sisters, Mavis (Bud) Brandvik, Killdeer, ND and Shirley (Bill) Plagge, Dickinson, ND; a brother-in-law, Larry Rudeen, Long Beach, CA and numerous nieces and nephews. Grant was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred; his oldest daughter, Sydne Carlson; his parents, Guy and Miriam; two sisters Marian Rudeen and Lorrine Odren and a brother-in-law, Harry Orden.
