Memorial service for Gunvald Neverdal, 59, of Dickinson, ND will be at 2:00 p. m. , Monday, February 1, 2010 at Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson, ND with Father Todd Kreitinger celebrating. Gunvald passed away Monday, January 25, 2010 in Neverdal, Norway. Gunvald Neverdal was born on February 4, 1950 to Guttorm and Agnes (Thorvaldsen) Neverdal in Neverdal, Norway. The home he grew up in was in the family for generations. The sea or ocean enchanted Gunvald from an early age. In elementary school Gunvald spent a lot of time drawing pictures of ships. At the age of 16, Gunvald signed on his first ship as a cabin boy and was away from home for two years. During his career, Gunvald was a Second and First Officer in the Merchant Marines for several years and later earned his Captain?s license. Gunvald?s education was extensive from elementary, trade school, Marine Officer Training, photography, and semi-truck driving school in 1997. He ran his own trucking business from 2005 until 2008. Gunvald was also an avid reader. On July 30, 1990, Gunvald and Muriel Krogh were married in the Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Dickinson, ND. The couple lived nearly two years in Norway, first in Frei and later in Neverdal. In the fall of 1992, they moved to the USA and bought a home in Dickinson. They lived there until he returned to Norway in May, 2009. Gunvald leaves behind his wife, Muriel, Dickinson, ND, his father, Guttorm, Neverdal and brother Johan (Hilde) Neverdal, all of Neverdal, Norway; sister, Hanna (Nils) Greffe, Oslo, Norway; nieces, Silje and Linn Theresa, nephew Endre and three great-nieces; mother-in- law, Marionette Krogh, Dickinson, ND, brothers-in-law, Leslie, Rodney and Anthony Krogh; sister-in-law, Aljean-Krogh Ramsing; numerous nieces and nephews. Gunvald will also be missed by his extended family and friends in the US and Norway. He is preceded in death by his mother, Agnes Neverdal and father-in-law, Alvin Krogh.
