Funeral Services for Gus C. Tachenko, 96, of Grassy Butte will be 11:00 a. m. , Sunday, February 13, 2011 at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Grassy Butte with Pastors Bill Edwards and Ray Kelch officiating. Burial will follow in the Seventh-Day Adventist Cemetery, Grassy Butte. Visitation for Gus will be from 3:00 p. m. to 7:00 p. m. , Saturday, February 12, 2011 at Stevenson Funeral Home in Killdeer. Gus Tachenko was born October 18, 1914 in Grassy Butte, North Dakota to Mike and Rose (Sokirka) Tkachenko. He attended the Little Knife Butte Country School. On July 9, 1945, Gus married Stayce Moseanko in Butte, ND. They lived on the M Lazy T Ranch in western North Dakota near Grassy Butte where they raised their two children, Cody and Shirley. Ranching and family were life long commitments. As a young man, Gus and his brother, Sam, were hired to measure the Billings county fields and grain bins for the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASC). Community contributions have been provided in leadership while serving as a board member and president of the Billings County School Board and Medora Grazing Association. Dedication to the Grassy Butte Seventh Day Adventist Church and a sense of contributing to family and community were an important part of his life. Gus passed away February 3, 2011 at the Hilltop Home of Comfort in Killdeer. He is survived by his children, Cody (Janell), Grassy Butte and Shirley Tachenko Achord, Lincoln, NE; grandchildren Angi (Keith) Howe, Belfield, ND, and her children Thomas, Sierra, and Christopher; Bryan (Julie) Tachenko, Beach, ND, and their children Kyle and Caleb; Mindy (Esley) Henderson, Keene, ND, and their children Taten and Rahnie Grace; Samuel Achord, London, UK; and John Achord, Lincoln, NE. He is also survived by his sisters Leone Quast, Beach, ND and Anne (Delmar) Holbrook, Colton, CA; his brothers Lonny (Estelle) of Dickinson, ND; Steve (Virginia) of Grassy Butte, ND; Mike (Marvella) of Avon Park, FL; sister-in- law Alma Tachenko of Baker, OR; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Stayce; his parents and his brothers, Joe and Matt Tachenko; half brothers ? Nick Tkachenko, George, Andrew, Sam, and Bill Sterling, and John Davis.
