Funeral services for Harlan L. Haugen, 59, of Minot, ND, formerly of Killdeer, ND will be 11:00 am, Saturday, March 21, 2009 at the Stevenson Funeral Home in Killdeer with Pastor Joel Sauerwein officiating. It was Harlan?s wishes to be cremated. Visitation will be Friday, March 20 from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the Stevenson Funeral Home in Killdeer. Harlan passed away Friday, March 13, 2009 in Minot, ND. Harlan L. Haugen was born April 6, 1949 in Dickinson, ND the son of Lars and Adalyne ?Toody? (Reichert) Haugen. He grew up and attended school in Killdeer graduating from Killdeer High School in 1967. Harlan began working for the railroad in maintenance and construction. He moved to Seattle and attended Folks Barber College and received his license in barbering and worked as a barber for several years. He then attended Renton Vocational Technology College where he received his degree in electronics. Harlan began work for the Hanford Nuclear Power Plant in the Tri-Cities area in Washington. While there he traveled to several countries in Europe maintaining nuclear power plants. Harlan returned to North Dakota where he began a partnership with his brother Gerald Boehm and together they operated Killdeer Erectors for several years. Harlan also helped his father, Lars, on the family farm until after his father?s death. He moved to Arizona and worked in the construction business before moving to Minot where he has made his home for the last ten years. Harlan was married to Sandra Keller on November 1, 1970 and to this union two children were born: Christopher L. and Candace Jo. Harlan enjoyed life to the fullest especially any sport that gave an adrenaline rush or scare. A few of his favorites were, water and snow skiing, ocean kayaking, white water river rafting, horse and bull riding and arm wrestling. During his school years he wrestled, lifted weights and sang in the school choir. He also enjoyed treasure hunting with metal detectors, fishing, hunting and camping. He is survived by two children, Christopher Haugen, Manning, ND and Candace Haugen, Bismarck, ND; his mother, Adalyne ?Toody? Haugen, Killdeer; a sister, Geraldine ?Deane? Haugen, North Bend, WA; a brother, Kevin Haugen, Kenoza Lake, NY; a sister-in-law, Karen Boehm, Killdeer, ND; an aunt, June Clark, Minneapolis, MN; a special friend, Joyce Gefroh, Minot, ND; numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Harlan is preceded in death by his father, Lars; a brother, Gerald Boehm
