Harold was born on November 1, 1920 on the family farm near Manning, ND, the oldest child of Christ and Esther (Kjos) Hanson. He grew up and attended Four Mile Country School south of Killdeer. He was inducted into the US Army in 1945 and served in the Pacific Theater. After being honorably discharged in December of 1946, he returned to Killdeer. Nearly six years later, on October 19, 1952, Harold married Marjorie Ann Dardis. Marg was truly the love of his life and together they raised two daughters, Cathy and Peggysue. Prior to going to work with his parents on the family farm, Harold worked as a ranch hand on the Schmidt Brother’s ranch west of Killdeer. Harold and Marjorie raised their family and operated the family farm with Harold’s parents for many years and eventually purchased it. Except for his years in the Service, Harold spent his entire life on the family farm. Harold had a special bond with his daughters that extended to his grandchildren as well as his nieces and nephews. Even into his nineties he remained young at heart and had a zest for life. He loved to tease and pull pranks on people, but was loved by all. He had a contagious sense of humor that everyone seemed to enjoy. In his later years, Harold built many unique bird houses, all of them with intricate detailing. It was nearly impossible to believe he could continue to accomplish this despite his vision problems that left him severely impaired. Harold was a member of the Killdeer American Legion and St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Harold is survived by his wife Marjorie; daughters and son-in-laws, Cathy and Bob Larsen of Dunn Center, and Peggysue and Toby Stroh of Dickinson; five grandchildren, Lance and Christy Larsen, Dunn Center, Reid Larsen, Dickinson, Alyssa, Breanna and Christina Stroh, Dickinson; four great-grandchildren, Dane, Steena and Ean Larsen, and Jhane Davidson; three sisters, Elna Beneke,Woodburn, OR, Grace Luedke, Portland, OR, and Alice Prchal, Billings, MT; two aunts, Inga Lawhead, Killdeer, ND and Alice Kjos, Kenmare, ND.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents; and three siblings, his sister Hazel, and his brothers Marvin (Tuney), Killdeer, and Melvin(Dempsey), Bismarck.
