Harriet Wellenstein

A Liturgy of the Word Service for Harriet Mae Wellenstein, 82, of Dickinson will be 11:00 a. m. , Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at Stevenson Funeral Home with Deacon Kris Ringwall celebrating. Burial will take place at a later date. Visitation for Harriet will be from 1:00 p. m. to 8:00 p. m. , Monday, September 19 at Stevenson Funeral Home with a rosary and vigil service being held at 7:00 p. m. Visitation will continue from 8:00 a. m. to 11:00 a. m on Tuesday. Harriet passed away Sunday, September 11, 2016 at Eastern Montana Veteran’s Home in Glendive. Harriet Mae Samuelson was born to Clement and Alma Samuelson on August 7, 1934 in Williston, ND. She graduated from Brockton High School in 1952 and from Columbus School of Nursing in Great Falls, MT in 1955. While working as a nurse in Wolf Point, MT, Harriet met a young man named James Wellenstein. The couple was united in marriage on July 7, 1956. Harriet and Jim settled in Glasgow, MT to raise their three children: Doug, Joan and Janet. Harriet enjoyed working part-time at the hospital and nursing home while Jim worked for MDU. In 1971, Jim was transferred to the Dickinson office. The couple have made Dickinson their home ever since. Harriet was a very talented lady. Her fun and spontaneous personality was a joy to everyone she came in contact with. The family has many special memories of Harriet and Jim dancing the Jitterbug in the living room, her tap dancing, and singing “Anchors Away” and “Honeycomb” in the kitchen. Her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren brought her tremendous joy. Harriet’s legacy to her family is the unconditional love she had for each one of them. Harriet was the last surviving member of her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Gordon, Donny, Wally and Vic; sisters, Lois and Carol; grandson, Ryan Bares; and her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. Harriet is survived by her husband, Jim of Dickinson; son, Doug (Olivia) Wellenstein of Dickinson; daughters, Joan Bares of San Antonio, TX, and Janet Wellenstein of Bismarck; grandchildren, Mandie Erickson and Jenna Wellenstein of Dickinson, Whitney Wellenstein of Oakland, CA, Nathan Bares of San Anotnio, TX, Julie Bares of Billings, MT, Erik Sjursen of Dickinson, and Sarah Sjursen of Bismarck; great grandchildren, Addison and Brody Erickson, Kashton Washington, and Nadia Sjursen of Dickinson and Alicia and Iliana Bares and Zhario Cooper of Billings, MT; sisters-in-law, JaneAnn Samuelson, Patsy Durham, and Delores Wellenstein; brother-in-law, Dick Wellenstein; and many nieces and nephews.
