Helen Bice was born October 22, 1921, at her home in rural Grassy Butte, daughter of Martin and Agnus Weber. She attended grade school at the Badland District School Number 4. She attended high school in Killdeer, graduating in 1941. Helen married Hillis J. Bice on June 8, 1942. They lived together on a ranch until October 21, 1942, when Hillis was drafted in World War II. Helen worked in a grocery store in Killdeer for approximately a year, then worked for the County Superintendent of School for about 14 months until the war ended. When Hillis was discharged, the couple made their home at their ranch 22 miles northwest of Killdeer farming, ranching and raising their two children, Dennis and Charlotte. Helen loved to ride horseback, riding in many roundups with her husband. She loved working alongside her husband in the field, mowing and raking hay. She and Hillis were always side-by-side helping each other. They were seldom seen apart. Helen taught Sunday School at the Killdeer Mountain Sunday School and was the secretary-treasurer for many years. Helen was also a charter member of the Killdeer Mountain Homemakers Club and served in every office. In the fall of 1996, she came to Dickinson to take care of her brother, who was ill. Helen loved to crochet, make quilts, crafts, flowers and garden. She was a wonderful, loving mother and grandmother who will be missed greatly. Surviving her are her son, Dennis Bice of Killdeer; daughter, Charlotte (Ken) Johnson of Eden, UT; and her five adored grandchildren whom she loved dearly ? Jason, Justin, Shawna, Shelayne and Allesha ? and whose visits she looked forward to and enjoyed immensely. She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hillis J. Bice.
