Mass of Christian Burial for Helen Biel, 79, Dickinson, is Thursday, March 6, 2003, 10:00 a. m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father Dennis Schafer, celebrating. Interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Visitation is Tuesday from 9:00 a. m. to 9:00 p. m. at Stevenson-Mischel-Olson Chapel with a rosary at 7:00 p. m. led by Richard Wandler. Continuing Wednesday from 9:00 a. m. to 9:00 p. m. with a rosary being said at 7:00 p. m. followed by a vigil led by Deacon Ralph Stockert.


Helen passed away Sunday, March 2, 2003, at her home south of Dickinson.


Helen K. Biel, daughter of John and Catherine (Zwick) Laub was born October 26, 1923, in Gladstone, North Dakota. She attended school in Gladstone, graduating in 1942. While in school she was active in drama and basketball. Helen also sang with the Jr. and Sr. Choirs at St. Thomas Church. After graduation she worked as a bookkeeper for the Farmers Union Oil Station for three years. Helen and Anton Biel were married June 26, 1946 at St. Thomas Church in Gladstone. She was very active in her community, on and off of the farm. Helen was a member of the Queen City Garden Club, a 4-H leader, a member of the Leap Year Homemakers Club for 41 years, Master Gardeners, Stark Co. Election Board, Christian Mothers and St. Pius Verein. Her roots to Gladstone were strong as she was on the committee for the Gladstone All School Reunion and Centennial. She particularly enjoyed her gardens, her many cats and her “Tweety” Bird.


Helen is survived by her husband of 56 years, Tony. A son and daughter-in-law, Gerald and Laurie (Fritz) Biel of Dickinson. A daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Randy Schroeder of Scottsdale, AZ. Grandchildren, Alyssa Biel of Dickinson. One brother, Robert and Viola Laub of Millbury, OH and aunt, Nora Zwick of San Marcos, CA. Her parents, two brothers and one sister preceded her in death.
