Helen passed away peacefully Friday morning, August 6, 2010, at St. Luke?s Home in Dickinson. Helen Kuhn was born on May 16, 1923, to Stephen and Mary (Grundhauser) Fritz on the family farm near Lefor, ND. She was the fifth of 11 children and grew up in the rural Lefor area where she attended school. Helen married Arnold J. Kuhn on May 27, 1942. They were farmers their entire lives, working side by side raising a family of nine children. They lived on a farm five miles southwest of Lefor until 1966, at which time they moved to their farm six miles south of Dickinson. After her husband died, Helen was a resident at Evergreen in Dickinson from 2002 until 2008, at which time she became a resident of St. Luke?s Home in Dickinson. Helen was a wonderful mother, always teaching her children how to work and play, but above all, pray. She was an awesome cook, baker, seamstress, gardener and all-around homemaker. Helen belonged to the Christian Mothers and Homemaker?s Club and was a very active participant in her children?s 4-H and school activities. Helen?s family was very dear to her, and each and every one of her 27 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren was special to her and she made sure they knew it. Grandma Helen rejoiced with every new baby. She had a way of making them all feel very loved, and she bestowed her little lessons about God to them. Helen was never without a rosary in her pocket and prayer was an integral part of her daily life. She passed on her devotion of our Lord to all who knew her. Helen is survived by her nine children, Diana (Paul) Dietz, Underwood, MN and their children: Cordell (Erika) Dietz, Clark (Cheryl) Dietz, Cara (Chad) Holtz and Chris (Kara) Dietz, Arnie (Sue) Kuhn, Fargo, ND and their children: Sara Kuhn and Cassie (John) Petri, Donna Lefor, Bismarck, ND and her children: Tad (Lori) Lefor, Trina (Steve) Schobinger, and Tara (Tony) Bauer, Deborah (Keith) Thompson, Dickinson, ND and their children: Brock (Jenny) Thompson, Brick (Stacie) Thompson, Brook Thompson, and Brandy Thompson, Jeffrey (Barb) Kuhn, Dickinson, ND and their children: Marissa Kuhn, Micheala (Henry) Kallis, Kari (Ehren) Cline, Ben Kuhn, and Jaden Kuhn, Mary Pat (Ray) Bruels, Dickinson, ND and their children: Shantel Bruels, Suzanne Bruels and Sasha Bruels, Rocky Kuhn, Ash Grove, MO, Robin (Janet) Kuhn, Dickinson, ND and their children: Andrea Kuhn and David Kuhn, and Helene Zelaya, Moorhead, MN and her children: Devin Zelaya, Dorian Zelaya, Helen Zelaya and Hailley Zelaya; two brothers, Joe (JoAnn) Fritz, Coeur d?Alene, ID, and Wilfred (Georgia) Fritz, Prior Lake, MN; three sisters, Betty Deardorff, Colville, WA, Ann Schneider, Dickinson, ND, and Marie (Dave) Schuhrke, Henderson, NV; three sisters-in-law, Catherine Fritz, Mansfield, OH, Bertha Bayer, Sacramento, CA, and Kathleen Wittinger, Columbia Heights, MN; one brother-in-law, Martin (Maggie) Kuhn, Dickinson, ND; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arnold J. Kuhn, who passed away on September 2, 1998, after 56 years of marriage; four brothers, Steve, Nick, Tony, and Carl Fritz; one sister, Eva Davin; and one granddaughter, Frances Mary Bruels, who Grandma Helen held in her arms for a short while.
