Mass of Christian Burial for Helen Pratt, 91, of Baker, MT will be at 11:00 a. m. on Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at St. John?s Catholic Church in Baker with the Reverend Father Thomas Tobin as celebrant. Rite of Committal will follow in the Pratt lot in St. John?s Catholic Cemetery at Baker. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 24th, at Stevenson Funeral Home in Baker with a Rosary and Vigil Service at 7:00 p. m. Helen passed away on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at the Fallon Medical Complex Nursing Home in Baker, MT. Helen Rose Pratt was born a daughter of John Frank and Mary (Radermacher) Flemming on December 29, 1916 at Foxholm, ND. Helen grew up on her parent?s farm south of Minot, ND. She attended grade school at Minot and later attended St. Leo?s Catholic High School. Helen met Russell Smith and the two were married on November 29, 1935. To this union Elaine and James were born. After their marriage, Helen and Russell moved to Baker, MT where Russell worked in his bakery. Helen and Russell later divorced. Helen married Charles O. Nelson on October 11, 1952, in Baker. Helen and Charles spent their time between the ranch at Carlyle and their home in Baker. Charles passed away in 1960, and Helen made her home in Baker. Helen enjoyed playing cards and dancing, and in 1968, she found her partner, William Otto Walter Pratt. Helen and Billy were married on July 22, 1968 in South Dakota. Billy was the love of Helen?s life. Helen and Billy owned and operated Jim?s News Paper Stand for eleven years. The two spent many happy years together. Billy passed away in 1996. Helen continued to live in her home until she entered Fallon Medical Complex Nursing Home in 2003. Over the years, Helen was actively involved in many organizations in the Baker community. Helen was a crafty person. She was an accomplished upholsterer, artistic painter and quilter. Over the years, Helen made many quilts for her family and friends. Helen enjoyed playing cards, especially whist and bridge; hunting and fishing with Billy and dancing. Helen was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Baker Homemakers Club. Helen is survived by her children, Elaine Schorsch of Federal Way, WA, and James (Brenda) Smith of Midland, MI. ; nine grandchildren, fifteen great-grand children and five great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary, her husbands, Russell, Charles and Billy, her son-in-law, Ron Schorsch, her brothers, Francis, Leo, John, Daniel, and Henry, and her sisters, Mary, Joan and Genevieve. Arrangements are under the care of Stevenson Funeral Home of Baker, MT.
