Helen passed away Saturday, September 15, 2018 at St. Benedict’s Health Center in Dickinson.
Helen M. Brost was born July 10, 1930 in Richardton, ND, the daughter of Joseph and Rose (Schuch) Brost. She grew up on the family farm south of Gladstone, attended school in Gladstone where she graduated from Gladstone High School. It was during her high school years that she met her high school sweetheart, Chester Willer. The couple was united in marriage on May 23, 1950 at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Gladstone. To this union, ten children were born: Bob, Dave, Lorna, Debbie, Cindy, Tom, Mary Sue, Pat, Jeff and Lisa. Together, Helen and Chet eventually settled in Dickinson where they raised their family.
Helen worked for Dickinson Nursing Center for several years once all her children were in school. Having a great love for children, she then decided to provide child care in their home for numerous families.
Helen was a very talented woman and spent much of her free time sewing, quilting, working on craft projects, playing card games and playing the piano. Her excellent seamstress skills provided many young women with prom and bridesmaid dresses. She made unique Halloween costumes for her children and grandchildren. She also completed a quilt to present to each of her 23 grandchildren upon their high school graduation, including the youngest who will graduate this year. She enjoyed spending time tending to her garden and bowling with friends and family. Helen’s faith in God and love of her family were of the utmost importance to her. She could often be found supporting her children and grandchildren in their sports and music activities.
Helen was a member of the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and actively served on many committees, both with the church and St. Patrick’s Grade School. She was involved with Catholic Daughters, Christian Mothers, and Trinity High School, where she served as chairperson for the meals at the annual Mardi Gras.
Helen will be greatly missed but remembered for her beautiful blue eyes and engaging smile.
Helen is survived by her ten children, Bob (Rita Kubas) Willer of Victoria, MN, Dave (Jackie Roshau) Willer of Glendale, AZ, Lorna (Wayne) Sanders of Fargo, ND, Debbie Dobler of Bismarck, ND, Cindy (Bruce) Kary of Dickinson, ND, Tom (Susie Price) Willer of Dickinson, ND, Mary Sue Sutter of Beaverton, OR, Pat (Michelle King) Willer of Prescott Valley, AZ, Jeff (Michele Gab) Willer of Ashland, NE, and Lisa Schwindt of Phoenix, AZ; 23 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Chuck (Darlene) Willer; and sisters-in-law, Marcie (Gabby) Quilici, and Diana Zedlar.
