A Funeral Service for Helmut E. Straub, 79, of Baker, MT will be at 11:00 a. m. on Tuesday, January 25, 2011, at the Emmanuel Evangelical Free Church in Plevna, MT with Pastor Bruce Inion officiating. Interment will follow in the Community Union Cemetery at Plevna. Visitation will be 3:00 p. m. to 9:00 p. m. on Monday, January 24th, at Stevenson Funeral Home with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p. m. Helmut passed away on Thursday, January 20, 2011, at Dahl Memorial Healthcare in Ekalaka, MT. Helmut Ewalt Straub was brought into this world on October 25, 1931. He was born on the family farm just northwest of Plevna, MT to Paul and Johanna (Krieg) Straub. While growing up, Helmut took pride in working for his father on the family farm. In 1950, Helmut fell in love with a small town cowgirl (Edna Schmidt) from Mildred/Fallon, MT and didn?t let any weather conditions get in his way from traveling to see her! On August 24th, 1952, Helmut made that cowgirl his bride! To this union, three little rascals were born: Cheryll Rene?, Louetta Louise and Lester Elton. Helmut?s second love was his own family farm where he strived in farming, ranching and mechanical work. He enjoyed teaching and helping his family and friends on any sort of mechanical issues. Helmut had a strong passion for singing and playing guitar at special occasions, especially when he was singing a duet with his wife. He also secretly enjoyed playing the organ and piano in his underpants with his leg tapping to the beat. When Helmut took a break from music he found joy in flying his airplane, watching Larry Bird play for the Celtics and making burned cedar d?cor. He was also known for sharing stories with family and friends about his experiences driving truck, flying and farming. Not only did Helmut take pride in his own hard work but he was also very proud of his kids and grandkids and always was sure to let them know he loved them dearly. Helmut peacefully went home to be with the Lord on January, 20, 2011, while his wife was playing Gott ist de leibe ?God is Love? on the piano by his side. As Helmut entered the Kingdom of Heaven there to greet him was his earthly father, Paul whose earthly birthday was that same day. Helmut is survived by his loving wife, Edna of 58 years, their three children, Cheryll Straub, Tucson, AZ, Louetta Straub, Rapid City, SD and Lester (Julie) Straub, Baker, MT. His four grandchildren, ShaRell Egland, Marisa, Presley and Shaleigh Straub. Preceding Helmut in death are his parents, Paul and Johanna and his three sisters and their spouses, Albina (Emil) Sieler, Johanna (Jonathan) Wenz and Erna (Albert) Stickel.
