Funeral Mass for Henry E. Allen, 85, of Dickinson will be 12:30 p. m. , Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at St. Patrick?s Catholic Church with Father Charles Heidt Celebrating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph?s Catholic Cemetery, Dickinson. A luncheon will be at Garvin Hall, following the burial. Visitation for Henry will take place from 12:00 p. m. noon to 8:00 p. m. Monday, November 15, 2010 at Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson, ND with Rosary and Vigil Service taking place at 7:00 p. m. Henry began his journey to Our Lord on Thursday, November 11, 2010 at Anoka Health Center, Anoka, MN. Henry E. Allen was born March 29, 1925 to Webster and Rose (Theisen) Allen on the family ranch near Sentinel Butte, ND. He attended the Plain View school. On November 10, 1943 he enlisted into the United States Army Air Corps where he served in the 17th Airborne Division. During his tour, Henry fought in the Battle of the Bulge in 1944. Here, Henry became a POW for 3 months. After being honorably discharged on December 20, 1945, he returned to the Sentinel Butte area. On April 2, 1951 Henry married Elizabeth ?Betty? (Braun) Hauck at St. Joseph?s Catholic Church, Dickinson. Together they raised seven children: Karen, Leslie, Rita, Rod, LaVonne, Joyce and Tony. Henry worked as railroad telegrapher in the Sentinel Butte, Medora, Gladstone and Dickinson areas from 1949 to 1984 He was a member of St Patrick?s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He and Betty were active volunteers for Meals on Wheels and St. Joseph?s Hospital. Last summer, Henry celebrated 50 years on the family farm. Henry is survived by his seven children: Karen Allen, Arroyo Grande, CA; Leslie Allen, Champaign, IL; Rita Meyer, Minot, ND; Rod Allen, Bedford, MA; LaVonne Fritz, Dickinson, ND; Joyce Bushaw, Grand Forks, ND; Tony Allen, Andover, MN; two brothers: Melvin Allen, Yakima, WA; and Donnie Allen, Watford City, ND; 15 grandchildren: Jason and Jeremy Kaufman, CA; Nate, Arlie and Lydia Allen, IL; Kyle, Chris and Nick Bushaw, ND; Christi Soukup and Tonya Boettcher, MN; Madeline Allen, MA; Robert Meyer, Wendi Dailey, Lisa Skoblar and Dan Meyer, ND and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; both parents, three brothers: Carl, Kenny and Tine; a sister, Barb and a grandson, John Meyer.
