Henry Ficek was born July 7, 1912, southeast of New Hradec to Frank Jr. and Mary (Hanel) Ficek. He farmed throughout his life from age 18. Henry attended school in New Hradec. On October 3, 1933, he married Mary Kubas at Sts. Peter and Paul Church, New Hradec. They lived on his father?s homestead for the first two years, then they moved to a farm southeast of the family homestead. In 1947, they bought a farm three miles northeast of Dickinson. They resided there until moving into Dickinson to their present location in 1976. In addition to being a hard working and dedicated farmer, he was an inventor creating unique items that would make a job easier. He would build equipment, rebuild equipment, made a grain drill into a corn planter, made a bale buncher, rotary hoe, cattle feeders, welded items, wood items and any other farm equipment he needed to operate the farm. Plus, he built hobby items such as hanging and moving flowerpots, windmills, fishing pole holders and many other items. As a teenager the first item he ever built, which is a doghouse still exists in the original farmstead in New Hradec. Henry loved fishing and playing cards. Henry is survived by: his wife, Mary, Dickinson; three daughters, Irene (Joe) Kostenko, Dickinson, Edith (Tom) Decker, Billings, Mont. and Alice (Ed) Binstock, Columbus, Mont. ; six sons, Gilbert (Marjorie Sabo), Billings, Mont. , Donald (Helen Frank), Beaver Dam, Wisc. , Raymond (Tina Rixen), New England, Clarence (Linda Thomas), Tampa, Fla. , Alvin (Shirley Wolfe), Rapid City, S. D. and Kenneth (Jayne Barfoot) Ficek, Prescott, Ariz. ; 23 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by: his parents; infant daughter, Georgianne; grandson, Randy Ficek; son-in-law, Louie Hondl; five brothers, Joe, Adolph, Isadore, Stanley and Tom and two sisters, Mary Jablonsky and Emma Ficek.
