Henry M. Kobilansky was born April 14, 1936 on the family farm south of Glen Ullin, son of Paul S. and Margaret (Wetzstein) Koblilansky. He grew up on the farm and attended country school, finishing school in Glen Ullin. Henry worked on the farm before entering the National Guard during the Korean Conflict. After being honorably discharged, he returned home and began working various jobs such as farm hand, truck driving, working on the interstate and in the oil field. It was during this time that he met Claudia Schafer and the two were married on October 21, 1958. They were blessed with five children and together made their home in Glen Ullin. Henry began working at the local elevator, helping manage it until his retirement in 1986. During this time, Henry and Claudia stayed busy with woodworking and started Kobies Krafts. After Claudia passed away in 1997, Henry and his long time friend Bonnie were united in the Catholic Church on November 20, 1999. Henry had many hobbies and accomplishments throughout his 76 years. He loved animals, watching and feeding birds & squirrels, and gardening. Music was a passion of his and he played accordion for many years. Bowling and playing horseshoes were two of Henry’s favorite pastimes and he enjoyed being the president of the Horseshoe Club. He was also a member of the area ambulance and fire department. Making wood-crafts for, writing letters, and sharing stories with his grandchildren were activities he also treasured. One of Henry’s greatest achievements was his sobriety during the last 13 years.
