A funeral Mass for Henry A. Kovash, 82, of Dickinson, will be 11:00 a. m. , Friday, January 23, 2015 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Dickinson with Father Russ Kovash celebrating. Entombment will take place in the Dickinson Mausoleum. Visitation for Henry will be 1:00 – 8:00 p. m. , Thursday, January 22nd at Stevenson Funeral Home with a rosary and vigil service being held at 7:00 p. m. Henry passed away Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at CHI St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck, ND with his family by his side. Henry Alfred was born December 17, 1932 in Dunn County, the son of Peter and Mary (Sadowsky) Kovash. Growing up he attended country school Iota #5 through the eighth grade. He was enlisted into the US Army in 1952 and served during the Korean Conflict. Henry was honorably discharged in 1954 and returned to the Manning area. On September 13, 1954 Henry married Lillian Kostelecky. The couple was blessed with four children, Kevin, Brenda, Dean and Galen. Together they farmed and raised their wonderful family south of Manning until 2003. Henry and Lillian built a new home in Dickinson in 1982 and it is where they still currently reside. Henry served on the Iota School Board and on the election board. He was a member of Farmers Union and St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. Henry played the accordion in the Hank Kovash Orchestra for 15 years. He continued to play the accordion for enjoyment and he watched Mollie B on RFD channel. He loved chocolate and enjoyed playing pinochle. He also enjoyed trips to the casino, checking the crops along the way. Henry was a good steward of the land. The neighbors labeled him ‘Henry the 1st’, always being the first to plant and harvest his crops. Henry will be remembered for his sense of humor and his hardy belly laugh. Henry is survived by his wife, Lillian; daughter, Brenda (Brad) Fong of Dickinson; sons, Kevin (Jaylene) of Dickinson, Dean (Ramona) of Manning, Galen Kovash of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Brent (Bethany) Kovash, Erin (Kyle) Pennington, Ali Kovash, Carter (Stephanie) Fong, Tera Fong, Whitney Fong, Haley (Jon Marsh-finance) Fong, Mitchell Kovash, Dillan Kovash; two great-granddaughters, Sydney Fong and Brianna Kovash; brothers, Wilfred, Albert (Evelyn) of Dickinson; sister, Mary (Herman) Dukart of Dickinson; sisters-in-law, Blanche and Donna Kovash of Dickinson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Mary Kovash; brothers, Raymond and Ronald Kovash; sister, Martha and husband, Ludwig Karsky; sister-in-law, Georgia Kovash; and an infant sister. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to: Dickinson Catholic School Foundation, St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, or CHI St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation.
