Herbert or Herbie as most of his friends and family called him was born on May 15, 1929 the son of Fred and Magdalena (Krueg) Straub in Fallon County. He grew up and attended Dry Fork Country School later attending high school in Baker. Due to his brothers being called into the service Herbie worked on the family farm. Herbie was married to Frieda Lang on June 29, 1952 at Plevna, MT. Together they ranched and farmed and raised there three children, Brenda, Paula and Terry. Herbie served on the Wills School Board for several years. In the fall of 1968 the family moved into Baker so that the kids could go to high school. Herbie always insisted on taking a summer vacation which was a family high light. In 1990 Herbie semi-retired yet you could always find him helping his son, Terry or son-in-laws, Dale and Ronnie when they were branding, shipping or farming. Herbie and Frieda enjoyed opening their home to any and all on any given Sunday or holidays for great get-togethers. Herbie faithfully attended the First Baptist Church in Baker as well as his Sunday morning Coffee.
