Hilary passed away, Monday, January 20, 2020 at Sanford Health in Bismarck.   Hilary was diagnosed in June of 2019 with T-cell Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma.  Hilary did not lose his battle with cancer, he lived graciously and courageously with it until the very end.

Hilary was born May 27, 1965 in Dickinson, North Dakota to Leo and Clementine (Haag) Hartman. He graduated from Trinity High School in 1983. After high school Hilary went to Bismarck Junior College for air conditioning and heating certification. Hilary found his true passion in 1987 when he joined as a volunteer firefighter for the Dickinson Fire Department.  In March of 1989 he was hired on part time, until January 1991 when he became a full time fire fighter. Hilary served the community for over 32 years with roles including; Lieutenant of the volunteer fire fighters, Officer in Charge, Captain and Fire Engineer.

Being a First Responder was much more than a job to Hilary.  He wore his uniform with pride and loved his fellow fire team members like family. Hilary will be remembered as a role model, mentor and true friend that was always there whenever you needed him.  A quote from a fellow firefighter “Every call we ran you knew what to do and how to keep us safe.  Now we are a family because of you, Thanks for giving me 1000 great memories and only one sad one today”.

Hilary is survived by his siblings, Laurence (Nancy) Hartman of Rapid City, SD, Betty Ann (Roger) Hurinenko of Dickinson, Monica (Curtiss) Forster of Dickinson; nephews, Daniel Hurinenko, Patrick Hurinenko, Andrew Hartman; nieces, Jennifer Weixel, Joleen (Eric) Click, Kimberly (Chad) Groll, Ashley (David) Larson; his furry nieces and nephews; his fire department family and fellow First Responders and several aunts and uncles and many cousins.
