Hilbert Swanson, 84, Dickinson, died Friday, March 12, 2004, in Dickinson. Memorial services are 10 a. m. , Wednesday, March 17, 2003, at Heights of Glory Church of God, Dickinson, with Pastors Harold and Marge Sundgren officiating. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be in South Dakota at a later date. Hilbert Swanson was born October 3, 1919, in Fargo, ND to Carl and Esther (Nygaard) Swanson. Hilbert married Ardith ?Ardy? Ruprecht in Miles City, Mont. on March 2, 1942. Shortly after their marriage, he was deployed oversees with the 164th Infantry. During WWII, he was involved in key battles in Guadalcanal and other areas in the Pacific Arena. During one of these, he was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, WWII Victory Medal, and other medals and letters of accommodation. When he returned home, he entered law school. Hilbert graduated from the University of Denver Law School in 1950. He and Ardith moved to Dickinson in 1952, where he and his partner, Larry Greenwood, opened their law firm. They had many successful years practicing law. During the 1970?s, Hibby joined Ray Moore in the oil business and they formed Comanche Resources. In 1982, Hibby and Ardy retired and spent many active years between their homes in the Black Hills of South Dakota and Mesa, Arizona. Their life together was filled with lots of family, great friends, golf games and card parties. Hilbert loved to entertain and had a special gift for telling really great stories. He loved life and lived it to the fullest. Hilbert is survived by his three children: David (Barbara) Swanson, Dewey, Ariz. , Kathrine (Jim) Sepkovic, Eugene, Ore. , Joanna (Curt) Fuchs, Dickinson, N. Dak. ; eleven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; extended family, Camey and Dave Huncovsky and Barbara Swanson. He was preceded in death by: his wife, Ardith; parents; two brothers, Karl and Pete Swanson.
