Hilda passed away Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at CHI St. Joseph’s Health, Dickinson. Hilda Anna Dassinger was born November 14, 1921, the daughter of Herman and Anna (Reinholdt) Rieckman. She was born prematurely and doctors sent her home in a shoe box where her dedicated mother kept her alive by using a cook stove oven as an incubator. Hilda attended Shipley country school, completing the eighth grade in only seven years. After school she stayed home to help on the family farm south of Dickinson and was proud to be one of the two people to ride the black stallion. She also worked part time cleaning apartments. After the war she met Matt Dassinger and they were married on July 2, 1947, at St. Patrick’s Church in Dickinson. To this union four children were born: Linda, Gary, Laverne and Loraine. Together the family lived on the farm where she raised her children and summer-time nieces and nephews. She was known as a caretaker, often caring for nieces during a family crisis and feeding farm hands. Hilda helped with many soup and strudel events for the Knights of Columbus. She also worked as a sight manager for 26 years at the Gladstone Senior Center. In 2005 Hilda moved to Dickinson where she lived ever since. She enjoyed square dancing, playing skip-bo, embroidering and making quilts. Hilda was a mother to her grandchildren as she was a mother to her children. She was known by two generations of Gladstone children as the Candy Lady. Hilda was known as a jokester who loved life and everyone in it. Hilda is survived by her daughter, Linda Hagen of Bismarck; her children, Shelly and Scott Kerzman, (Zachary, Madison and Nathaniel); Brian and Kendra Hagen (Cooper); son, Gary Dassinger of Gladstone; his children, James and Amanda Dassinger (Dawson and Dustie Rose); and Missy and Ryan Lockamy; daughter, Laverne and Bill Erdman of Minot; their children, Lisa Erdman; Kristi and Nathan Drost (Colby, Carter and Cadence); and Mathew Erdman; daughter, Loraine and Mark Erdman of Dickinson; her children; Mark Jr. and Laura Erdman (Ethan and Payton); sister, Anna Frank of Dickinson; sisters-in-law, Eva (Tony) Orlando, Alice Rieckman, Jackie Dassinger (Steve); brother-in-law Steve Dassinger; other special people, Debbie (Tom) Lothspeich- Hlebechuk, Pat Hagen, Sandy Vogel and Ellie Ricker.
